Love seeing Ohio State getting throttled. Truly a disgusting organization. Would love to see a 55-24 redux!

I would like to blame Sermon going out after one play for me missing on the scores so badly, but he don't play defense. What a beautiful and utter schlonging of the devil to deliver Nick Saban to College Football Immortality!

Dabo is young, but it's going to be tough for anyone to surpass Saban in my lifetime. And he ain't done just yet!

Some crazy stats:

-This is the first time since 2009 that Alabama actually had an undefeated season.  Their 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2017 championship seasons all featured a loss.  On the other hand, they lost in the CFP Final in 2016 and 2018 after perfect regular seasons.

-Alabama last trailed at any point in a game on October 17th, their 4th game of the season.  In their last 9 games, they never had so much as a 3-0 1st quarter deficit.

-This was the 13th consecutive season that Alabama was ranked #1 at some point in the season.  It's also the 12th time in those 13 seasons (and 9th straight) that they entered their regular season finale (generally the Iron Bowl) with a legitimate shot at a national championship.

-This is the second straight year that the national champion was an undefeated SEC team that averaged scoring north of 48 points per game and featured the Heisman Trophy winner.  Those are also the only two occasions the 1-seed has ever won the College Football Playoff since its creation.

-DeVonta Smith set the all-time record for receptions and receiving touchdowns in a CFP Title Game and was 8 yards short of Ja'Marr Chase's receiving yards record from last year.  And, that's all despite only playing half of the game.

-In the last 15 years, the SEC has now won 11 national championships.  The ACC follows with three, and the Big Ten has one.  In that same 15 year span, the SEC has actually sent 16 teams to the National Championship Game, only being shut out in the 2014 season (but having both participants in 2011 and 2017).

-This also finishes off a 7-2 bowl campaign for the SEC, which is even more remarkable because all seven wins came against ranked opponents (including unranked teams Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Kentucky downing ranked foes).  That sets an all-time record for wins by a conference against ranked opponents in a bowl season.

How nice it must be to be a college football coach and not have to worry about things like literacy and academic competency that bog down other programs.

There is nothing more important in this world than football and the men who know how to win at it.

So who does Alabama play in the NFL Divisional Round?

No one this year, since the playoffs have begun.

I'd be fine with the Crimson Tide entering the NFL Playoffs in the Wild Card round next season, rather than competing for the College Football Playoff.

It's funny how things change.  For a long time the Vols were the top football program in the state but had a meh basketball team, while Memphis was the basketball leader but lousy in football.  Now the two schools have switched roles.

Seems more likely that Memphis will improve the basketball program than the Vols will right the football program anytime soon.

We're being propped up by the James Franklin years and the late 2010s period where UT was bad.

SCOTUS heard arguments today in NCAA v. Alston, the college athlete compensation/antitrust case. The results? Ain't looking too hot for the NCAA; Thomas, Alito, and Kagan in particular sounded pretty done with the fig leaf of "amateurism" that the NCAA uses to justify not paying players. See the quote below from Alito:

I should mention, though, that Justice Thomas at one point said the phrase "high level schools like Alabama, Ohio State or Nebraska" so uh...I'm not sure he's entirely clued in to modern CFB.

Thomas is a massive Nebraska fan, so I wouldn't be surprised to learn that he thinks a return to the glory days is just around the corner.
