I'm getting the feeling there's not going to be a lot of separation this week.

I don't honestly expect to win, but I do think we have a better chance than anyone is giving us credit for. KJ Costello and Kylin Hill will be the two best players on the field, and Mike Leach is an outstanding coach.

I love picking upsets, but I'm not this crazy (and this coming from a guy who regularly picked against Alabama and Clemson in previous incarnations of the pick'em). LSU has more overall talent, and Ed Orgeron is at least the equal of Mike Leach in coaching ability.

I definitely lean LSU, but with as few returning starters as they have and as little prep time they have been permitted this spring/summer, I don't think anyone should be surprised when they fall out of the top 10. I don't think Mississippi State, a team learning a completely new scheme with similarly limited practice time is the team to do it (they will this decade for sure), but crazier things have happened. Talent alone is a pretty weak barometer for this season. We should get some weirder outcomes than usual.

While I am also a super fanboy, I don't think Leach is a great coach. I just worship his aura. He did a good job with limited talent but also got on the wrong end of blowouts a lot and drops many winnable games foolishly. Ed Orgeron OTOH is an outstanding coach, and I am so proud of my 2013 and 2016 tweets that he was deeply underappreciated that I ought to pin them. But I don't envy the difficulty of task in front of him.

Not a ton of spreads I feel great about this early in the season. It's always fun to bet against Tennessee, so I took the 'Cocks with the points given that UT had an enormous number of players out of practice this week.

I feel less good about it, but I also took UVA laying points (parlayed with a couple big favorites to offset the vig).

And against my advice of "expect anything", I parlayed 11 double digits point favorites outright (with 9 team round robins). That worked twice last year so maybe I'll catch magic this week.

Star CB, Derek Stingley won't play for LSU today because he was "acutely ill" and hospitalized with a non-COVID ailment.

Louisiana barely escapes Georgia Southern with a 53-yard FG on the final play to win 20-18.  Elsewhere, Oklahoma and Kansas State are tied at 35 with 6 minutes left (and KSU has the ball and is driving).

You stupid idiot. Two years in a row you let Kansas State destroy an 11 team parlay vs. Oklahoma. At least this year it won't be 10 for 11, will it? Lol

Oklahoma, no playoffs for you! Ban the whole Big XII

I think everyone picked Oklahoma.

Anyways. There goes the Big Twelve's chances of getting into the playoff.

Why is it when I pick an upset, I'm wrong, but when I don't pick an upset, I'm also wrong?

Given the total lack of non-conference play in the Big 12, and the failure of teams that did play, I don't know how the power ranking on Big 12 teams can be anything other than a steaming pile of goo.

Yes, everyone picked Oklahoma; also Florida, Auburn, UCF, LSU, Texas, Georgia, BC, Baylor, and Va. Tech.  We must be in a herd mentality. Wink

In other news, Auburn beat Kentucky by a surprisingly large margin. 29-13.

Auburn goes on the road to Georgia next week in what could be a battle of top five teams (and probably will host College Gameday, assuming Gameday is going on the road in the pandemic).

Pittsburgh downed Louisville 23-20.

Also, it's still really early (less than halfway through the first quarter), but Arkansas is up 7-0 on #4 Georgia...

Louisville QB took a really nasty injury to end the game there. He was tackled from behind as he made the pass, it was a normal hit and didn't look bad at all, but he landed and on his head when he fell. I hope he's okay.

If you get this one right and the rest of us get this wrong I think I'll jump off the roof of my apartment.
