Honestly a little surprised that it was because of covid issues on Wazzu's side — there haven't been many positive tests on campus at all, but Santa Clara County (and the state more broadly) has been cracking down hard. Santa Clara had banned practice (requiring the team to practice at a high school field in San Mateo) until mid-October and I wouldn't be surprised if they're considering reinstating that restriction. Not sure what the rule is for a 7:30 kick that goes past the 2 1/2 hour mark (and hence past the 10pm curfew) but I could definitely see that presenting an issue too.

Given the number of California schools in the PAC-12, this could lead to that conference shutting down.

If they don't, I imagine start times for games would be moved up (a 7:30 game might become a 3:30 game) for example to avoid the curfew.

It's probably time to delay the Playoff until February to give more time to make up games and let everybody get 10 or more in.

Why, in a truncated season, is Virginia playing Abilene Christian?

Why, in a truncated season, is Virginia playing Abilene Christian?

The ACC allowed each team to play 1 non-conference game on the demands of Clemson, Florida State, Louisville, and Georgia Tech to preserve their games against their in-state rivals. But then the SEC decided not to allow any non-conference, so everyone in the ACC is just playing 1 random game against a nobody.

Are we possibly looking at a Northwestern/Ohio State Big Ten Championship game?

I mean, look at Northwestern's remaining schedule:

@Michigan State
@ Minnesota
vs. Illinois

All three of those games are winnable.

Man, what kind of gypsy curse is OK State suffering under that makes everything that can go wrong against Oklahoma do so?

The Hoosiers-Wildcats Big Ten Championship dream is over. Sad

If the Rona kept Ohio State short of 6 games they wouldn't qualify for the championship game...that's not impossible with how things have been lately!

Seems the likeliest outcome by far.

First Playoff Rankings out this week.

My guess as to what the committee will do:

#1 Alabama
#2 Ohio State
#3 Notre Dame
#4 Clemson

#5 Cincinnati
#6 Northwestern

On another note, the New Year's Six/Playoff dream is dead for Liberty. They lost to NC State today 15-14.

WEEK 12 RESULTS

Illiniwek won the week at 17-4, two games ahead of the nearest competition.  Four games were canceled.  Full results:

17 Illiniwek
15 Dereich, Dingo Joe
14 dfw, GeorgiaModerate
13 Jgibson, NY Express
11 Donerail, ExtremeRepublican

There were three unanimous picks, all correct:

Iowa State-Kansas State
Michigan-Rutgers
Washington-Arizona

There were six games with a single dissenter (the dissenter was wrong in all of them):

Ohio State-Indiana
Coastal Carolina-App State
Army-Georgia Southern
Cincinnati-UCF
Oklahoma-Okla. State
Boise State-Hawaii

This week really mixed things up at the top of the overall standings, as dfw moved into the lead by a game over Dereich and Donerail.  Year to date standings (238 games):

165 dfw
164 Dereich, Donerail
161 ExtremeRepublican
160 GeorgiaModerate
149 Jgibson, NY Express
141 Illiniwek
135 DINGO Joe
16 JacksonHitchcock

I would predict Texas A&M and Florida for 5-6, with Cincinnati maybe 10th. The Committee traditionally hasn't been kind to G5 undefeateds, especially those without a P5 win.

The Pac-12 should forget about the playoffs and just play a full 12 game schedule with makeups through January.

The top 25:

1. Alabama (7-0)
2. Notre Dame (8-0)
3. Clemson (7-1)
4. Ohio State (4-0)
5. Texas A&M (5-1)
6. Florida (6-1)
7. Cincinnati (8-0)
8. Northwestern (5-0)
9. Georgia (5-2)
10. Miami (7-1)
11. Oklahoma (6-2)
12. Indiana (4-1)
13. Iowa State (6-2)
14. BYU (9-0)
15. Oregon (3-0)
16. Wisconsin (2-1)
17. Texas (5-2)
18. USC (3-0)
19. UNC (6-2)
20. Coastal Carolina (8-0)
21. Marshall (7-0)
22. Auburn (5-2)
23. Oklahoma State (5-2)
24. Iowa (3-2)
25. Tulsa (5-1)

BYU at 14 is absolute garbage. They've looked awesome. Georgia at 9 is also laughable. And it looks from this like the Pac-12 has no path even going undefeated with Oregon all the way at 15.
