Don't look now, but Mississippi State leads LSU 17-14 and has outgained them 281-120 so far.

If you get this one right and the rest of us get this wrong I think I'll jump off the roof of my apartment.

That's a pretty extreme reaction. Are you an LSU fan or something?

Not really. I just think LSU is the superior team by a significant margin. They really shouldn't be losing to Mississippi State if they want to have any chance of being in contention for a New Year's Six berth (I think the playoff is out of reach this year- they aren't quite good enough to win the SEC.)

By the way, still looks like there will be an upset in Fayetteville.

Closing in on Halftime, Arkansas leads #4 Georgia 7-2, and is currently outgaining Georgia 123-113, has one more First Down...

Georgia was a 28 point favorite coming into this game.

If (and it's a big IF) Mississippi State and Arkansas both hold on to win today, it's suddenly a huge matchup in Starkville next week between these 2 teams.

And no sooner did I say that, than Mississippi State comes back with a 75 yard TD pass to take  the lead again. It's now 27-24 Mississippi State.

Mississippi State now leads 34-24, and KJ Costello has thrown for over 500 yards.

Either LSU's defense is not nearly as good as expected, or we have a real Heisman frontrunner in Starkville.

To be fair to LSU, their Ace CB, Derek Stingley missed this game with a non-COVID illness.

Georgia has gone from trailing 10-5 to leading 34-10, still 11 minutes left in the game.  They might cover the spread after all.

Georgia has gone from trailing 10-5 to leading 34-10, still 11 minutes left in the game.  They might cover the spread after all.

They might have to play five ranked opponents in a row over the next few weeks (Auburn, Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, Florida). No way they win all of those games.

Let's worry about them one at a time. Smiley

The Big 12 might want to reconsider its decision to play this year.

If you're going to write in a college football coach on your 2020 ballot, you might as well write in Nick Saban's name in my opinion.

Texas Tech and #8 Texas tied at 56 with less than a minute to go in the 4th Quarter.

KJ Costello - now the Heisman frontrunner?

And Texas/Texas Tech is going to overtime!

Meanhwile, #6 LSU has officially been defeated, and #14, Cincinnati defeated #22 Army 24-10.

Let's wait and see how he does against Auburn/Alabama/Georgia first, before we anoint him as a Heisman contender.

EDIT: Given how Sam Ehlinger has done so far this season for Texas, I'd say he's the frontrunner to this point.

Also, Texas State is leading Boston College 14-7 at the half.

I think we all picked Boston College (I know I did.)

Yes:

Yes, everyone picked Oklahoma; also Florida, Auburn, UCF, LSU, Texas, Georgia, BC, Baylor, and Va. Tech.  We must be in a herd mentality. Wink

Not really. I just think LSU is the superior team by a significant margin. They really shouldn't be losing to Mississippi State if they want to have any chance of being in contention for a New Year's Six berth (I think the playoff is out of reach this year- they aren't quite good enough to win the SEC.)

Their ceiling was never high enough for that. The only two reasons for that number next to their name is because a) two conferences are not being ranked; and b) they won last year and get undue respect until they lose. Both are in the 15-30 range. The gap isn't the humongous.

Given the way LSU played today, they aren't beating Alabama, and they probably won't beat Auburn either, so a New Year's Six bowl is out of the question (unless Auburn does even worse for some reason, or they upset Alabama/Auburn). They'll also have serious problems with Florida too.

I'd expect either a 6-4 (with losses to Mississippi State, Alabama, Auburn and Florida), or 7-3 (they beat one of Florida/Auburn) season.

Mississippi State still has a bit of ways to go for me to take them seriously, but the schedule makers did them a few favors. I see a 7-3 season, counting the LSU game, in their future (losses to Alabama, Auburn and Georgia), with an outside chance of an 8-2 (if they beat Auburn or Georgia). If they go 8-2 that might be good enough for an SEC Championship game spot, assuming Alabama also loses twice (and that one of their wins is against Alabama, of course.)

Just a reminder that Tennessee had an agreement inked with Mike Leach in the middle of their fanbase's collective hissy fit and could have had an interesting team.
