President Eisenhower retires in 1956, citing his health.

Vice President Nixon wins the Republican nomination.

With Eisenhower at the peak of his popularity (presumably) providing support, does Nixon win in November?

Nixon likely wins, but not in a landslide like Ike did. I’m not even sure the Dems would still nominate Stevenson in this scenario; they might think they have a real shot against Nixon so choose someone other than a sacrificial lamb. Kefauver, for instance.
