They don't. Smiley "nice guy FF Smiley" suburbans are fine with a conservative in power as long as you come off as inoffensive (see: Kelly Ayotte). Even if he hasn't outright gone full #NeverTrump, he's done enough (especially wrt COVID) to come off that way.

As for the poll, the gap will absolutely narrow like it did in 2018 (the huge gap is because of name recognition), but he'll most likely win. Likely R.
