Incredibly sad news of course.

While not wanting to shift the focus from the tragedy, I'm posting here because, as he has two young kids, its entirely possible he could resign or decline to continue with his re-election campaign.

Oh no! That' so sad. Poor Barr, and his kids must be devistated as well. Still likely R at the end of the day, even if he chooses to not seek re-election.

What on Earth. Barr is a lot of things, but I would wish this on neither him nor his family.

Oh, no. No. I hope Barr and his family can find the support they need at this time, and that he does what he thinks is best for him and his daughters regarding his seat. My prayers are with them.

Terrible news for him and his family. Even if I mostly disagree with him on the issues, I still would not wish this on him.

This.

I think Barr retires this year.

Barr has an extremely strong Dem opponent who has gotten no attention on the forum but has had some big-name fundraising surrogates like David Axelrod, Pete Buttigieg, etc. Unclear if his chances improve w/ Barr out (because no incumbent) or worsen (b/c Barr is flawed). Conventional wisdom is that this race is Likely R but I'd call it more Lean R.

Probably. McGrath should make a run for this seat, she should drop out of the Senate race.

Is there any KY 06 Republicans that can win here?

If he actually retires, still some Republican, McGrath couldn't win this seat and I doubt some unknown candidate will either.

State Senator Steve West is probably Barr's successor

West defeats Hicks 51%-49%.

Ghoulish.

Oh give me a break. This is an election forum and the whole thread was started to discuss how this impacts the election. Stop with the crocodile tears; your president's campaign team has made jokes about Biden's family tragedies.
