I say Massachusetts. I like the fact that it's urban, liberal, diverse, and well-educated.

you are mostly correct.  but there are plenty of trashers here in the bay state.

the best part of the state is probably the rural berkshires.

my favorite state is vermont.

Montana.  I've always wanted to buy a huge track of land up there and retire.

I'm particularly fond of the blue ridge in North Carolina and Virginia. I'll go with NC for the added few degrees of warmth. There are plenty of other great places, but they all seem to have some draw back in terms of living there - be it too hot at times, too cold at times, too over populated, too far from a cultural center, etc. - NC seems to work for me.

Maryland or West Virginia.  I love the New River gorge and the area around Harpers Ferry and in West Virginia.  The best places to live in Maryland are the areas around the Potomac in Frederick, Washington, and Garret Counties.  Towns like Cumberland, Brunswick, Point of Rocks, and Williamsport are great.  Not only is the scenery spectacular, but there is plenty of railroad action on CSX on the ex-C&O in the New River gorge and the ex-B&O along the Potomac.

I like New Hampshire. It seems to be a nice state. Funny how this thread has only gotten half the responses of the "most hated state" one... Cheesy

Would've been Washington before the fascist strip club laws passed. Now I'll say New York. My favorite metro area outside of the Twin Cities is the Portland, OR one though, it's like Seattle without the fascist laws!
