Paul Ryan enters the Republican Primary race in 2012 as a "White Knight candidate", and secures enough delegates to force a contested convention. He then defeats Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul at the convention to become the nominee.

Would Ryan be able to defeat President Obama in November?

Who would his running mate be?

He gets Romney's map minus North Carolina. The country was still recovering from the Great Recession at that point, so I'm not sure his brand of fiscal conservatism would have played especially well. I think he goes with a Southerner as his running mate - maybe Barbour, Jindal, Huckabee or Cornyn?

I think he'd probably go with either Barbour or Cornyn.
