When the nominee is an avowed peace candidate and arguably further left than Humphrey I could definitely see them losing at least VA. Vice presidential nominee means much less than who's at the top of the ticket.

Romney wins 279 - 182 - 77 , but Humphrey very narrowly takes the PV.
