What if Scotland's seven-year-old lady and heir had lived to be installed as Queen and beyond?

She was betrothed to the future Edward II of England. But the Treaty of Birgham maintained a continued seperation of 'assets'
If we assume the marriage happened it would probably see a closer and closer union several hundred years before it happened. No IRL conflict with France and a secure border.

An early Union of the Crowns is the most likely scenario.

But it's boring. She marries Edward but they can't consummate until she is 16. Together for 7 years when Edward I dies in 1307. There's no Edward III but Edward II shows himself again to be ineffectual. Let's say no children. If Margaret takes after her father, we could see Norway taking an interest to protect her rights over Scotland. As do the Bruces. Edward would be succeeded by his brother Thomas who has issue as does younger brother Edmund.

Margaret has a younger sister Ingeborg (who has her own fantastic story) with no children. Norway is also having 'problems' with female successors so let's have Margaret keel over at 50 and die in 1343.

Magnus IV is currently ruling Norway, Sweden and Scotland. If Scotland remains passive during the succession strife in Scandinavia/Kalmar Union then it still emerges as part of Denmark-Norway-Scotland.

Orkney and Shetland were Norwegian IRL to 1472 and nearly all coastal Islands were Norwegian until a few decades before Margaret. So it's not impossible for a foothold to exist that keeps Scotland in possession.

There's an In the Sea Of Time fiction scenario in this i feel - Margaret's ship gets sent to today and she arrives in modern Orkney. They'd be able to treat what led to her death (food poisoning or sea-sickness) and I'm sure Margaret would be ulitilised by the SNP and there'd be a big interview with the Seven Year Old Queen of Scots on STV North and STV Central once she was acciimatised.
