So for anyone that says that White Evangelical Christians have historically supported the racist suppression of African-Americans, here is an anthem for a true Freedom Fighter John Brown who was simply ahead of his time, but simultaneously help spark a sequence of events which ultimately led to the "official end of slavery"...

For anyone not familiar within that era of US politics of the Antebellum era, massive shifts in public opinion where occurring in Northern States as a direct result of a religious revivalist movement, which frequently involved mass events, where frequently "Slaves" who had escaped via the Underground Railroad would speak about their personal experiences in mass settings, nickle novels were widespread sometimes written by actual escaped "slaves", and sometimes money grubbers trying to cash in on the movement....

Pete Seeger: Keep Your Eyes on the Prize (Live).

Definitely topical... used to listen to this song as a young kid on vinyl in the early '80s... ironically saw the vinyl in a local record store the last day before the lockdown....

But really highly suggest living to the live link, so there is so much more content....

Paul and Silas bound in jail
Had no money for to go their bail
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on

Paul and Silas thought they was lost
Dungeon shook and the chains come off
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on

Freedom's name is mighty sweet
And soon we're gonna meet
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on

I got my hand on the gospel plow
Won't take nothing for my journey now
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on

Hold on, hold on
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on

Soozie!

Only chain that a man can stand
Is that chain o' hand on hand
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on

I'm gonna board that big greyhound
Carry the love from town to town
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on

Hold on, hold on
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on

Hey!

Hey!

Now only thing I did was wrong
Stayin' in the wilderness too long
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on

The only thing we did was right
Was the day we started to fight
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on

Hold on, hold on
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on

One, two!
(The only thing we did was wrong)
(Staying in the wilderness too long)
(Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on)

Woah, woah!
(The only thing we did was right)
(Was the day we started to fight)
(Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on)

Hold on, hold on
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on

Hold on, hold on
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on

Ain't been to heaven but I been told
Streets up there are paved with gold

Conflict: Increase the Pressure

Classic UK Peace Punk band from the '80s....

CONFLICT LYRICS
"Increase The Pressure"

The second album full of same old songs
Fighting back against a system which is cruel and wrong
Yet another battering ram against a wall of power
A blasphemous attack to blow the leader's cover
It's a message from those who won't take no more
Of seeing the privileged profit from the poor
Of the scientist's piss they call research
Of being told we're scum and should be birched

Well bollocks to them all, keep smashing at the wall
Pile the pressure on and Government will fall

But it takes more than music and more than words
To recreate a nation that's controlled by hoards
Of police, army and  knows what else
That they've got waiting for the backlash from the people who care
To question their control, their dividing lines
Power must be tested, it's testing time

Power must be tested, we've heard that time and time again
But no matter how much pain and protest, nothing seems to change
The Government show forces and our movement cowers in fear
Some still strive for freedom, while others simply sneer

It's the same old racket with the same old songs
Well it's the same ing system and it still stands strong
The battle continues so bollocks to them
Who mock our anarchy then bow their heads again
You try working for something that a system can't make
Creating something that a law can't take
Back as a loss of privilege for stepping out of line
Power ain't been tested, so now's the time to f**k them up again

NOVA GREEN: "Two Track Malvina Reynolds" DJ Moment....

Lovely older lady born in 1900 and was a well known figure in the Bay Area California from the times of early Civil Rights Demonstrations, Labor Movement Activism, and a bit later on the early days of the "Vietnam Moratorium Movement"...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malvina_Reynolds

I'm dedicating this the current movement going on in the streets of the United States and throughout the world....   Wink

Malvina Reynolds: "It isn't Nice"

"It isn't nice to block the doorway,
It isn't nice to go to jail,
There are nicer ways to do it,
But the nice ways always fail.
It isn't nice, it isn't nice,
You told us once, you told us twice,
But if that is Freedom's price,
We don't mind.
It isn't nice to carry banners
Or to sit in on the floor,
Or to shout our cry of Freedom
At the hotel and the store.
It isn't nice, it isn't nice,
You told us once, you told us twice,
But if that is Freedom's price,
We don't mind.
We have tried negotiations
And the three-man picket line, 1
Mr. Charlie2 didn't see us
And he might as well be blind.
Now our new ways aren't nice
When we deal with men of ice,
But if that is Freedom's price,
We don't mind.
How about those years of lynchings
And the shot in Evers' back?
Did you say it wasn't proper,
Did you stand upon the track?
You were quiet just like mice,
Now you say we aren't nice,
And if that is Freedom's price,
We don't mind.
It isn't nice to block the doorway,
It isn't nice to go to jail,
There are nicer ways to do it
But the nice ways always fail.
It isn't nice, it isn't nice,
But thanks for your advice,
Cause if that is Freedom's price,
We don't mind.
"

Malvina Reynolds: The Little Mouse

"A little mouse got into the wires
At the central clearing house in Buenos Aires.
One little mouse short circuited the computers,
Says a press dispatch from Reuters.
Hooray for the little mouse
That mucked1 up the clearing house,
And threw the Stock Exchange in a spin
And made the bankers cry.
So much for the electronic brains,
That run the world of banks and aeroplanes,
And if one little mouse can set them all awry,
Why not you and I?
Spoken:
Then there was another item in the papers
About a bank's computers
That messed up the accounts
So the farmer's checks all bounced,
So his business fell apart
And it nearly broke his heart.
So he took the bank to court,
And they gave him an award
Of a hundred and fifty thousand dollars.
The bank appealed and on due consideration
The higher court doubled the compensation.
So if a computer does it to you,
You can sue, or chew the wires through.

So for anybody either a member of the Forum or a lurker, here is a song which my Grandfather who fought in WW II against the Nazi bastards at the Battle of the Bulge, would well remember if he had not passed away some 10 years back.   Sad

Greatest Generation is gone with few exceptions....

Men of No Property: Rubber Bullets

US Local Police departments are using weapons of war deployed against the Northern Irish Catholic populations in the late '60s/ early '70s by British Army Soldiers!!!

The sight of armored cars, and "non-lethal" weapons such as Tear Gas and Rubber Bullets being deployed against non-violent protesters in the Streets of America, journalists, and even militant protesters makes it absolutely clear that America is not a Democracy in any sense of the word...

There should be an immediate Federal Ban of weapons of war deployed against protesters....

*** IF this doesn't happen nationally we will tear this down city by city, state by state.....***

I strongly suspect that even tactics of police deescalation won't solve the problems, since we saw even in Atlanta GA an unarmed Black Man got shot dead in the back simply for the crime of "running from the cops", because he was allegedly drunk....

Naturally as the BLM Movements expand throughout England, as well as the Internal Colonies of Scotland & Wales....

Time to pull up a classic song from a UK Left-Wing Folk-Rock singer....

Before anyone flames me on this, it is intentional sarcastic talk from an individual well familiar with the Leftist Types who voted fro Brexit, while also condemning using subversion as a means to talk about real issues and history of racism within the UK....

Billy Bragg: Full English Brexit

The entire War on Drugs has been a complete and abject failure...

Ronald Reagan tried to do a Nixon, and effectively codified the massive assaults against "Drug Dealers" using the full force of Federal and State Assisted Law Enforcement Agencies...

What is meant is that SWAT teams were increasingly deployed to kick in the doors of American Citizens as a result of "no knock warrents".

We had helicopters and National Guard Troops deployed in places like Oregon and California to combat "illegal Marijuana Cultivation" in communities decimated with record unemployment in Southern Oregon and Northern California...

Meanwhile in the Cities we are listening to soundtracks such as in the late '80s/early '90s on the West Coast:

LARD: Drug Raid at 4 AM

So.... regardless of the Union Song, essentially we are talking more about the "powerful" and the "powerless"...

Almost a "Wretched of the Earth" kinda bag, with a ton of truth to power mixed in....

Seems topical somehow in July of 2020....

Naturally after attempts at "Red Baiting" head of the Congressional Black Caucus Karen Bass who is currently on Biden's shortlist, because of some activism to support the working people in Cuba way back in the days...  naturally I had to pull up a song of arguably one of the best Cuban musical artists Silvio Rodriguez, who was born in '46 effectively the song of a sharecropper who sung songs that to the present day are widely played throughout Latin America....

Another good song... here is a song about how he got murdered at the hands of the Fascists and the CIA as part of the failed Bolivian Uprising...

Peggy Seeger & Ewan Maccoll: "Balled of a Carpenter"

Essentially a UK Christian Folk Song about Jesus, but with Socialist themes.

Topical in 2020.

Bit of an Oi Polloi Mood this afternoon... Old Skool Scottish Peace Punk band from the late '80s /early '90s but still might be floating around as recently as 2017+...

Worth checking them out as uncompromising Musical Artists where there career covers a wide variety of sub-genres of music over the years...

Meanwhile we got a recent song: "Donald Trump F**k You", but I don't want to directly link because the language would violate the ToS on the official Music Video...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHC0uac4Apg

Anyways... Enjoy and although musically it might be palatable to many folx eardrums, these were the sounds that many of us were listening to back in the dayz...

Hell, even for you Republicans and Trump Lovers out there, def worth checking out...

Damn... I'm a fan of Hank Jr. and his musical career, despite the fact that I disagree with his politics... (Especially after he had the Mountain Climbing accident and started to go ape-s**t crazy)...

Music is music, so take it or leave it fwiw.... some songs might be more or less topical for the current times in which we live....
