For real though, I get that AZ is trending D, but loosing by double digits? Is McSally really that bad or are polls overestimating Kelly?

Lean D -> Likely D

I've been teetering on the edge of that for a while, but the polls are just too nasty for McSally for any rating more competitive.

She lost one election and was gifted a Senate seat anyway. She doesn't deserve that spot. Kelly is also HUGELY popular in Arizona. I followed him and his brother Scott years before he even announced. They're great people.

Likely D.

Can Arizona Republicans ask her to step aside and find a better replacement?

Yet another poll with Mark Kelly ahead by a significant margin. As I've said before, this race is Likely Democratic.

Can anyone think of a better job to have when running for office than astronaut?

If you're willing to play fast and loose with ethics, Secretary of State.

I had it as Lean D but I think Likely D is much more appropriate now.

I think it's a combo of all 3

AZ trending left
Mark Kelly is a really A+ tier candidate and well liked
conversely, Martha McSally is not well liked, and it probably doesn't sit well with people that she was just handed the spot after she lost

Not to mention AZ really loves their moderates. And her "liberal hack" comment was just so, so Trumpy.

Who else could they get? Arpaio? Ward? Biggs? Gosar? Aside from Ducey and Yee, Arizona's Republican bench is really poor for a state that was red until very recently.

If it was left to party insiders at a nominating convention, perhaps Jeff Flake might have a chance (whereas he wouldn't have a hope in a standard primary, even against McSally). There are also a couple of other elected Republican statewide officials - would Brnovich or Hart be credible?

They could also try to bring back Jan Brewer. Part of the reason AZ's R bench seems weak is because they've been brutal in dispensing with Republican incumbents.

For reference, this poll also had Biden +4.

Stick a fork in McSally, she's done.

As the poster above me pointed out, this isn't even a bad or biased poll. It also showed Biden up by a comparatively modest four points, which means McSally is titantically underperforming Trump. I think she's rapidly moving toward Cory Gardner levels of politically dead.

Is Kelly like well known or established in AZ? I don’t understand how their are so many Trump-Kelly voters either, he’s not particularly moderate and seems like an average Democrat.
