So Biden is up by about 6% averaged now. It won't last. Trump needs to give a speech adresssing everything.

Hey FYI, just a friendly note, you accidentally typed "6" when you meant to type "8". Kind of embarrassing, but don't worry, we all make mistakes sometimes!

Apparently, his staffers don't think it's a good idea for him to address the nation -- that it can only hurt him/he'll be criticized no matter what he does.

I think they are wrong. I think if he does it he needs to lay out some possible reforms/proposals.

Yes. trump would certainly articulate some sensible and meaningful reform for an issue he thoroughly understands in a calm and respectful way without stoking the fires of hatred. That's what he's done his whole presidency, amirite?

Woof - this is a horrific poll for Trump. Usually YouGov is one of his better pollsters but they find an absolutely bargain basement # for the handling of the protests (funny enough, the exact same # as Ipsos found) - while his favorability and approval #s have fallen a good amount from last week, especially his favorability, which at -15 on RV is the lowest for him I've seen in a while. Biden, meanwhile, went up 1% in his net favorability from last week.

Trump response to protests approval
Adults: 32/53 (-21)
RV: 33/56 (-23)

Trump job approval
Adults: 40/53 (-13) … -6 LW
RV: 43/54 (-11) … -8 LW

Trump virus approval
Adults: 41/52 (-11) … -5 LW
RV: 42/54 (-12) … -7 LW

Trump fav
Adults: 42/53 (-11) … -7 LW
RV: 42/57 (-15) … -10 LW

Biden fav
Adults: 42/48 (-6) … -5 LW
RV: 47/51 (-4) … -5 LW

Males: Trump +1 (LW: Trump +4)
Females: Biden +14 (LW: Biden +11)
18-29: Biden +16 (LW: Biden +21)
30-44: Biden +22 (LW: Biden +6)
45-64: Biden +2 (LW: Trump +5)
65+: Trump +3 (LW: Biden +2)
Whites: Trump +6 (LW: Trump +10)
Blacks: Biden +69 (LW: Biden +65)
Hispanics: Biden +20 (LW: Biden +18)

Umm, he did address the nation already.  But then he immediately took the attention away from his remarks (not that there was anything spectacular about them) by gassing protesters in order to do a photo opp at a church.

The gassing/photo opp stunt pissed off nearly everybody, except for die-hard Trump supporters like yourself.  And you know what was so sad about it?  He did the whole thing because he was so insecure about being forced into the white house bunker for a night.

You need to understand that he is not capable of uniting a fractured country.  He can only make things worse.

Someone please explain to me the YouGov polling cinematic universe. Is this a successor to the Biden +8 poll? Or is it an entirely different venture with The Economist?

YouGov does a weekly tracking poll for The Economist among 1500 adults with an RV subsample of 1100 to 1200.  It asks a ton of questions.  I post the results of this one in the Trump Approval Ratings thread when it comes out on every Wednesday.

They also do some polling for other entities such as CBS News, Yahoo News, and others.  These are all different apples.  I would advise comparing YouGov/Economist only to itself, CBS/YouGov only to itself, etc.  Don't compare one of these to the other.

They also do daily snapshots of Trump's approval featuring 1000 adults.  These are very noisy, and I wouldn't bother looking at them at all.

Pissed off Mattis so much he literally compared Trump to the Nazis after swearing before he wouldn't criticize a sitting president.

But yes, very unifying! The best, most unifying president in history, maybe ever!

I love it when he reads a prepared speech on a teleprompter that he clearly had no hand in writing, in a stilted tone, like his mommy is making him apologize to the neighbors for breaking one of their windows.

That should fix everything.

I always feel that when trump reads from the teleprompter, he sounds like a robot.
Also, nothing he says comes-off as genuine or sincere.

Yup, he doesn't some off as sincere when he reads the teleprompter. When he speaks freely, he talks total nonsense and makes a fool of himself for literally anyone outside is hardcore cult base. There is a reason they abandoned the Covid19 briefings.

Anyway, another poll that has him at 40% as an incument prez. Clearly he's in a horrible position.
