My state is tired of sending white supremacists to the House, and that's something to celebrate.

Not at all sad.

He is a loser.

He'll probably go back to his farming business or be a commentator on some local radio show.

Not sad. Wonder if he'll get a job at Fox or some other racist outlet.

Even if he won I'm not sure the chances of flipping the seat would be the same as 2018.

I guess I have somewhat unique views when it comes to horrific Republicans being primaried by less horrific Republicans.

I've had a few thoughts on this over the past day or so. It is good news that King is no longer in congress, I think almost all of us can agree on that. However, in terms of actual voting records there won't be much difference between Steve King and Randy Feenstra. Furthermore, the Republican Party does have deep rooted issues of racism and defeating Steve King does not make that go away. I think there is an argument to be made that it's better the Republican Party be seen with its mask off than it's mask on.

I'd also like to point out that J.D Scholten is an excellent candidate and even though his stay in congress would have only been for 2 years, I think that could have acted as a stepping stone for a future Senate or Governor run. I really hope he still runs for higher office in the future because I think he's a fantastic template for what a rural Democrat should be.

In conclusion, I'm thrilled Steve King lost. Do I think him losing the primary causes a net benefit? Perhaps not.

Disappointing that his loss came now rather than November. Feenstra's win makes this likely a Safe-R.

The only reason to have any grief over this is because Scholten has no chance at flipping this seat now. I knew he should have run against Ernst instead. But then again, King also probably could have won again anyway and we never would have been rid of him. Maybe Scholten can run for Grassley's seat when he retires, unless losing two congressional elections in a row makes him become less appealing of a candidate.

Otherwise, it's glorious!

I mean, I would have at least liked a chance of getting a decent person in that seat rather than automatically get stuck with a mini King like Feenstra.

Plus King as the nominee would have left us with the temporary added bonus of shutting up the anti-King officials who are bragging about King’s loss as if the GOP is now miraculously rid of all white supremacists in their party (far from it guys).
