Considering there may be upwards of seven state-level defeats from the left tonight alone, I'm pretty sure this is gonna be the end of Eliot Engel. Any other year, he might have been able to get away with this, but he's on the wrong side of literally the entire country.

I normally don't support primary challenges, but here, I definitely think that one is warranted. Engel is clearly out of touch with his constituents, and he has been in office for far too long-32 years. Hopefully, he loses.

IIRC this is the first sitting Congressman AOC has endorsed against in this cycle after Cuellar and Lipinski, and definitely the first sitting chair of a Committee:

Bowman will be DESTROYED for the next two years with Tucker Carlson bashing him every night. He's the next AOC

Engel will lose

This might something of a bold prediction, but I think AOC will be the next AOC.

Engel isn't a traditional moderate in many respects. I suspect if you knew him better, you would oppose him on non-ideological grounds (i.e. he does not do enough for his district and constituents).

I know that he isn't moderate, he is solid liberal and pretty left-wing and I don't like him, but he is far better than Bowman

Considering there may be upwards of seven state-level defeats from the left tonight alone,

Which defeats did you have in mind?

PA i think had a bunch of legislative primary challenges
Most of those reversed as more has come in.  I know at least three house primaries and 1 senate have flipped from challenger to incumbent.

I have supported Engel for many years. However, it is clear that he is out of touch (with this recent hot mic Floyd protest comments being the most recent example) and should've retired this cycle. Now he is possibly going to let a much more leftist, anti-Israel democrat beat him in his primary.

Very frustrating.

Why is Bowman anti-Israel?

I thought the only apparent Senate flips were Farnese and Leach...both of whom still appear to have lost.

There was another in Philadelphia that was around 54-46 that flipped as more came in.  I forget who it was though.

That was Brian Sims's seat.

The left also beat Ravenstahl in Pittsburgh.

Pulling for Engel. Might even send him a few bucks if it is actually looking close.

Why is Bowman anti-Israel?

1. Jewish Journalists have criticized some of his endorsers from anti-Israel or incredibly hostile critics of Israel: https://www.algemeiner.com/2020/02/07/new-york-congressional-candidate-touts-endorsement-from-anti-israel-activists/
2. Anti-Israel The Intercept likes him: https://theintercept.com/2020/05/26/eliot-engel-primary-defense-industry-pro-israel/

I'd argue he's closer to AOC-style critic of Israel as opposed to an Omar or Tlaib style anti-Israel crazy. Regardless of semantics, no supporter of Israel will like this guy.

So it's all by association. The guy himself hasn't said anything that can be construed as anti-Israel.
