We now have Tropical Depression 25, and a likely Tropical Storm Gamma, just off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. There are Tropical Storm Warnings up for areas that include Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and Cozumel.

Still wondering what the protocol is if we run out of names in the Greek alphabet. We still have almost two months of the season left to go, remember.

There are 21 Greek letters left, so that's extremely unlikely even in this extremely active year.  I don't think there is a plan for what to do if it happened since it's so unlikely.

In 2005, the most active year on record (and the only other one to reach Greek letters) they got as far as Zeta, which is three past Gamma.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATCMAT1+shtml/042055.shtml?

Potential Cyclone 26 has formed in the Western Caribbean. It is forecast to become Tropical Storm Delta and eventually Hurricane Delta.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at1+shtml/233230.shtml?cone#contents

It's currently forecast to make landfall somewhere between the Florida/Alabama line, and the Louisiana/Border by Friday, as a Hurricane.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATCPAT1+shtml/050233.shtml

And then there was Tropical Depression 26.

Forecast to be Tropical Storm Delta by early tomorrow morning.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at1+shtml/023600.shtml?cone#contents

The current forecast track has it moving directly over New Orleans as a Hurricane on Friday...but a lot could change by then.

Tropical Storm Delta has officially been named.

It's still projected to be the third (fourth if you include Marco) storm this year to make landfall on the Gulf Coast, and third Hurricane.

Hurricane Delta now a Category 4 hurricane. It's expected to cross the Yucatan Peninsula at or near Cancun, enter the Gulf of Mexico, weaken somewhat, and make landfall in central Louisiana.

Hurricane Delta now in the Gulf of Mexico after landfall in the Yucatan Peninsula. It's weakened to a category one storm, but it is still dangerous.

Hurricane warnings are up from the Texas/Louisiana Border, to Morgan City, Louisiana. This includes Lake Charles, battered just a few months ago by Hurricane Laura.

After Delta did plenty of damage to the same areas of Louisiana hit by Laura, we now have Epsilon which formed today south of Bermuda.

Tropical Depression 28 has formed in the western Caribbean, and is forecast to become Tropical Storm Zeta tomorrow and then move into the Gulf.  This will tie 2005 for the most named storms ever recorded in the Atlantic.

Latest advisory on Hurricane Zeta.

Winds are 90 miles per hour, and as of 10 this morning it was 235 miles South Southwest of New Orleans. Any Posters from Morgan City Louisiana, to the Alabama/Mississippi Line, should exercise extreme caution this afternoon and evening.

Hurricane Zeta made landfall as a strong Category 2 (just short of Cat 3) south of New Orleans, and is speeding through the Deep South states of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama today and tomorrow before exiting out through the mid-Atlantic region ahead of a strong cold front just in time for Halloween and All Saints' Day.

Zeta just blasted through and killed my power. When I was young, the upstate never got hurricanes, now its like a yearly occurrence.

Zeta just blasted through and killed my power. When I was young, the upstate never got hurricanes, now its like a yearly occurrence.

I was woken up about 5 am by the wind absolutely roaring outside and things bouncing off my house.  It stayed like that for a couple of hours and then gradually settled down, then everything moved out and it turned into a nice day by mid-afternoon.  When it got light enough this morning, I checked outside and everywhere is covered with leaves, pine needles, and small branches, plus a few very large branches.

My power stayed up the whole time (although it was flickering), which surprised me because this area is full of tall trees.  At one point this morning, over a million people in metro Atlanta were without power, and many thousands are still out.

Well the grid around here is just awful and can't stand up to anything it would seem.

A new system is organizing in the eastern Caribbean and is expected to become at least a depression by next week.  If it reaches TS status, it will break the record for most named storms in one Atlantic hurricane season.

It will technically just tie the record.  While Zeta was as far as we got in 2005, there was one storm that went undetected and was retroactively included in the 2005 totals.

Hurricane Eta is a strong category 4 hurricane with 150 mph winds (a little more strengthening and it could make cat 5) that will make landfall in Nicaragua:

Eta Intensifies Into a Category 4 Hurricane Ahead of Catastrophic Hit to Central America

It could experience a rebirth once it re-enters the Caribbean Sea, and once it does, Cuba will be in the crosshairs.
