Neither a riot nor violent (yet) but I've been stuck outside my apartment building for almost an hour trying to deescalate a shouting match between 2 of my neighbors over this crap.

Good for you (sincerely).

This, but be careful man.
I echo Badger's words, but I'd also love to hear the full story at some point.

It's good. Recently lockdown-caused unemployed white ethinc industrial worker in an old glory clad "made in America" shirt apparently got cursed at today at Walmart because his shirt was "racist" and "supports murder". So he decided to come home and yell about the rioters and how we're a laughingstock country and slighty drunk Asian methodist restauranteur didn't agree. So I basically had to chainsmoke for an hr trying to get them to agree to something and then leave. After like the eighth time I reminded them that no one present supports violent rioting or the death of Floyd they finally stopped and left.

What were they arguing about, whether the riots were good or not?

Using tear gas to subdue protesters may help spread the coronavirus, experts warn

Quote
Spraying people with tear gas causes them to cough, shout and scream — and that will send infectious droplets from an infected person to others, said Dr. Peter Chin-Hong, a professor of medicine and an infectious diseases specialist at UC San Francisco.

Tear gas may cause people who are wearing masks to take them off, and prompt them to rub their eyes, nose and mouth, Chin-Hong said. Even worse, respiratory irritants inflame the inside of the nose and mouth and the lining of lung tissues, making the body more susceptible to infection, he said.

Chin-Hong was one of more than 1,000 people — among them infectious disease and public health experts — who have signed a petition asking local and state governments to stop using tear gas, smoke and other respiratory irritants that increase the risk for coronavirus transmission by inducing coughing. The petition was inspired by a group from the University of Washington, and Chin-Hong said he was contacted to edit the letter.

Then ing behave. I’m being 100% serious.

Note that the man started bleeding profusely from his head, and they just left him there, on the floor.

This is just plain evil.

The initial statement from the Buffalo PD, presumably from before the video began to circulate.

Black Lives Matter protest near my work today. Nobody at my work knew about it until an hour beforehand... no extra staff, security, nothing. Everything was luckily fine and non-violent.

And this a great example of why we're having nationwide protests - the cops have no problem about cracking a man's skull open through casual use of force and then lying about it. For them, it's routine as breathing.

Local media in Buffalo is parroting the police line too. Media needs to stop regurgitating what the police tells them at face value as if it is God's honest truth. The police does not care about the truth. They only care about protecting themselves.

There is no way to watch that video without seeing an American Citizen in no way shape or form likely suffering permanent physical damage (best case) if not death at the hands of Buffalo Police Officers.

Anyone who wonders why these protests are not stopping is that every city has stories of trigger-happy over-militarized police departments employing aggressive tactics and "shoot to kill policies" in the interest of "force protection"....

It could just as easily be a homeless White dude in small-town Oregon with mental health issues who gets shot dead on our streets, because of poor local law enforcement responses (True stories that I could post).

Obviously unless somebody has been living under a rock for a few centuries, these types of encounters tend to be even more common within communities of color, especially within Black Communities across the Country.

Everybody gets the concept that "not all cops are racist KKK members", but the reality is that the Police Unions and Militarization of Law Enforcement agencies over the past (50) years, since Nixon first started the movement to create SWAT teams, have been a major part of the problem.

The visible use of extreme force even among peaceful protesters against police brutality, has perhaps made that visible in a manner among a New Generation of Americans, where we had just recently our first African-American President, and now many idealistic younger folks who grew up at the time of 9/11, and then Iraq War 2.0, are now seeing how reality is within the "Belly of the Beast".

No Justice.... No Peace

While I’m naturally appalled by the rioting, Antifa, etc, it’s worth remembering that police across the country are just as needlessly violent as the rioters and looters. Serious reforms are needed.

Meanwhile in the Bronx, NYC peaceful protesters are getting rounded up in larger numbers as we speak, not to mention other parts of NYC to "enforce the curfew"...

The only way to stop peaceful protests is brutality. That's why the cops are itching to do so. They can not process the amount of people protesting, especially if the movement grows. They don't have the manpower, money, or space. This is why physical force and irritants are the go to. This is why you see politicians Republican and Democrat minimizing and excusing the police violence.

Can a Dem elucidate why sending the military to put down a bunch of white-supremacist, Russian-funded, Klansmen, boogaloo-wanting, rioters is a bad thing?

The military should only be deployed on the homefront in an insurgency or large-scale terrorism situation. Otherwise, the situation should be defused by local/state law enforcement, or failing that, state-controlled national guardsmen.

Susan Rice told me on CNN that the rioters are Russian-funded racists. If we have foreign-backed insurgents at our doorsteps, surely that fits in with your criteria?

I don't give a sh**t what Susan Rice said, and even if there were Russian-funded white nationalists rioting and looting (which maybe there are some, but that's beyond the point) that's a situation that law enforcement and guardsmen should handle, not the national military.

Susan Rice is an African-American Women. It is typical of white privilege to curse at African-American leaders.
