Spring 2020 so far has been very dry and is on track to become the second driest since measurements started. With more than 10 days to go, there is little doubt that this will be by far the sunniest spring ever recorded. It was also warmer than normal. In the upcoming days, no real changes are expected, with continued sunny and dry weather with warmer than normal temperatures. Nature is still not recovered from the dry springs and summers of '17, '18 and '19, with Belgium's warmest temperature ever recorded last year, and after the Great Drought in 2018.

Curious what this summer will bring. More drought? I haven't seen rain since mid march, since covid-19 lockdown started...

This week will bring early summer

Quote
First the bad news: the drought is bound to continue. Nature desperately needs some water, but there are no signs of any change yet. The good news is that we will get a feeling of early summer this week, as temperatures will continue to climb to reach 27 Celsius or more on the public holiday (Ascension Day) next Thursday. All the time, the sun will prevail, with only a little cloud now and then.

On Friday, temperatures will drop and the wind will be stronger, but the good weather should continue over the weekend, weather forecasters say. It is unclear when we will have some substantial days of rain.

Also, not looking good for early summer and the hurricane season. Hurricane season looks like it's going to be a stronger than normal one, while our summer is likely going to be warmer than normal.

No rain expected in the next ten days. Drought is becoming more & more severe, and is getting media attention.

Spring 2020 is now the sunniest ever recorded. April was the second sunniest and one of the driest on record, while may is likely going to be the second driest may on record and one of the sunniest in Belgium.

Black line = current year
Red line = record year, the severe and legendary drought of 1976
Grey line = 2018, a remarkable dry year as well with what you can say a legendary drought as well.
Green line = 5% droughtest years above this line on that moment
blue line = median

We're well ahead of 1976 now.

Has the drought affected food prices?

No relief in sight, at the contrary, weather charts have been drier as ever, and for the upcoming 14 days no rain is expected. Rain is pretty unlikely. Longer term models (30 day models) think it's going to be drier than average as well in the second part of june. This might become historic

Rain predictions for the upcoming 14 days. Most models go for a flatliner.

The upcoming ten days. White means no rain. Very dry in Ireland, southern UK, large parts of Germany and France, Belgium, Netherlands, Southern Sweden, Southern Norway and Denmark. Wet in the Balkan region, parts of Poland, NW Iberia.

Grass is very yellow here. Today and yesterday, i haven't seen a single cloud in the air... This is starting to become like the desert.

According to the Met Office, for England, May 2020 is the driest May on record since 1896. There’s been less than 10mm rain falling across England on average. Data is up to 27th May, but unlikely to change given dry weather in coming days...
