I still can’t believe that VT was the most D state in 2020 (the first time ever that it gave the Democratic candidate their largest margin of victory).

I guess the difference between Secular Whites and Religious Whites is that big, even in rural areas. And toss in that Vermont is a fairly unique place as states go. I find it funny that while rural counties in Vermont that go very Democratic, very similar counties in New York go Republican. Of course they are two very different states with very different histories but it is interesting.

I'm still surprised Scott won by over 40 points.

He's at the point where he's just as popular in the VTDP as he is in the VTGOP. Zuckerman had no shot.

Leahy leaning towards running. We know he'll get Phil's vote!

But Leahy is a great Senator and a giant of the institution. The Leahy Law alone has probably saved thousands of lives.

Is there a chance Phil Scott runs for senate?
If Leahy’s running than no, but is there a chance?

I don't know about his own willingness to do so, but I do think that if he does run, he would be on track to becoming the Republican version of Mike Sullivan.

I endorse Phil Scott for governor in 2022 and 2024 and as long as he keeps running. He's the picture-perfect governor: ideologically sound (and close to perfect), has stayed above partisanship and stopped COVID-19 in Vermont. I wish Phil Scott 2.0 was the Governor of California.

Scott again denies an interest in Washington, calling the current situation in DC "septic"

He also denies an interest in the White House, saying that he can't even imagine running "at this point in time"

Wouldn't make much sense for him to seek federal office anyways. Especially as GOPer.

https://vtdigger.org/2021/08/09/bail-set-at-10000-for-winooski-man-accused-of-wreaking-havoc-on-interstate-89/

$10,000 in bail, only 10% of which had to be posted, for a criminal who has a history of failing to appear in court who committed a violent carjacking followed by psychotic behavior on the interstate that somehow didn't get multiple people killed:

Quote
Christopher White, 37, was arraigned Monday in Washington County Superior court on 11 charges, including driving under the influence, reckless endangerment, gross negligent driving, leaving the scene of an accident and driving after license suspension. White had to post $1,000 cash toward the $10,000 bail.

White pretended to be struck by an SUV in a Hannaford Supermarket parking lot in Bradford, police in that town said. He lay on the ground as if he were injured, and when the driver opened the car door to check on White, he pulled her out of the vehicle and drove off.
Get all of VTDigger's daily news.

The stolen vehicle — a white Chevrolet Equinox — then headed north on Interstate 89, where it caused crashes in Barre City, Berlin and Middlesex, Vermont State Police alleged, plus a multi-vehicle collision in Waterbury that shut down both northbound lanes on I-89. The Equinox crashed farther north on I-89 in Bolton.

Sounds like you guys need to reactivate the Super Troopers

https://vtdigger.org/2021/09/28/dr-marvin-malek-the-new-phil-scott-is-awol-on-covid/

Absurd article in the Digger smashing Phil Scott for becoming a "Ron DeSantis" by not shutting down the state again over COVID. While numbers are admittedly extremely high, in the most vaccinated state in the country, a new lockdown would be inane. Not to mention the comparison to Ron DeSantis, a madman who literally banned vaccine mandates (as opposed to Scott who has mandated them in the state government), being utterly absurd. Just ridiculous.

I'll grant that Scott's declaration of victory over COVID this summer was premature, but the state's got superb vaccination rates, and one would assume boosters will go over well, so this is just ridiculous.

https://vtdigger.org/2021/09/28/national-and-state-gop-sue-montpelier-and-winooski-over-noncitizen-voting-rights/

Phil Scott vetoed a bill allowing non citizen voting in two Vermont localities, he prefers a broad system that would allow a system for non citizen voting across the state. The RNC is suing the localities because they don't support non-citizen voting at all.

“We can’t do this piecemeal because the approach that Winooski took was different than what Montpelier had taken,” Scott said. “We just needed all the same, so there’s no confusion, and I think that can be done very easily.”

But the leader of Scott’s party, Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel, showed no interest in any type of voting for residents without American citizenship, saying in a written statement Tuesday that the charter changes were a “far-left assault on election integrity.”

Leave that party Phil, leave it! Smiley

Has Scott already decided to run again?

Vermont and New Hampshire should really switch to four year terms for their governors.
