I had this interesting thought: what if you added the votes received by the Republican and Democratic party in every election from 1856 (the first presidential election with the Republican party) to today in each state. What would the map look like?

Might be more interesting if you averaged out percentages. I would guess that adding up votes would just look like the sixth party system as there are currently so many more voters than in years past.

The mass suppression of poor whites and blacks in the Jim Crow South would cripple the Democrats if it was done in terms of raw votes v percentages. In 1936 in SC the D's won it with 98.57% of the vote, but turnout was very low for obvious reasons.
