He wants FOX to be his and the GOP's personal Pravda. They basically are, but there's only so much propaganda can paint over and sell with individuals as incompetent and evil as the ones in this administration.
This is one aspect of Realpolitik where Trump seems to be a slow learner.
Of course, Trump has outfoxed his opponents again and again, even to the point of winning while trailing in the polls. Trump knows showbiz and drama, and he knows that his base isn't always preoccupied with nuanced civics. In Trump's World, you're either for him or against him. And, in truth, he's not entirely wrong about taking that tack.
Trump's problem here is that he's making it tough for his friends to be his friends. Unless it's his goal to attack FOX so people view them as "independent" and not merely the counterpoint to CNN and MSNBC.
