https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/25/politics/trump-threatens-charlotte-republican-convention/index.html

Quote
Trump: "Plans are being made by many thousands of enthusiastic Republicans, and others, to head to beautiful North Carolina in August. They must be immediately given an answer by the Governor as to whether or not the space will be allowed to be fully occupied. If not, we will be reluctantly forced to find, with all of the jobs and economic development it brings, another Republican National Convention site. This is not something I want to do. Thank you, and I LOVE the people of North Carolina!"

The tweets completely blindsided party officials and those involved in planning the convention, who have repeatedly argued that health and safety will come first. The officials have insisted planning for the convention is on track.

Pence floated Florida, Georgia, and Texas as options:

Quote
However, Vice President Mike Pence echoed Trump on Monday, telling Fox News the convention could be moved "if need be" and listing some states that could be alternative locations.

"It's an issue we've been talking about because these national conventions literally take many months to organize and prepare and there are states around the country -- we think of Texas, we think of Florida, Georgia, the last two states I visited last week that have made tremendous progress on reopening their communities and reopening their economies," Pence said.

Another unprovoked, stupid, and tactless move by Trump.

Could they even move it? The RNC is exactly 3 months from now. (August 24th-27th) That is extremely short notice for an event this large.

I don't see how they could pull off a full scale RNC in another city with this kind of notice, but am wondering if some kind of downsized version would be doable (and if NC doesn't let them do even that, if they would move elsewhere).

Georgia and Florida would work too since they are also battleground states.

Trump has apparently floated doing a scaled down RNC "in a hotel ballroom in Florida", and the Florida GOP says they're willing to step in:

Lmao like Cooper cares whether Trump hosts his personal cult party in his state.

What a moron, you can’t just reschedule these things on the fly.

Luckily for the Republicans, they only have 2,550 delegates, over 2,000 fewer than the Democrats have, so if you're doing away with the audience, the venue could be considerably smaller than if the Democrats tried to pull this.

Yeah Trump isn't gonna act on this, but maybe they should try to prepare a backup in Florida in case Cooper has tricks up his sleve.

There's no doubt it ends up there if it gets moved out of Charlotte. Smiley

Hot take: The 2020 Republican convention will end up being held in one of Trump's hotels. Or possibly in Trump Tower itself.

Of course, he's implicitly endorsing the idea of personally profiting from the RNC, as long as it's in one of his properties with w big enough ballroom. I suggest Trump International Hotel & Tower Panama. It just has the right ambience for today's GOP.

Completely rules how thousands of republican devotees will happily gather and catch a deadly virus to honor their dear leader.

City councils would have to want and approve the moved convention. So you can cross out many cities in Florida, Georgia and Texas just based on that.

Have his entire presidency prior to the pandemic, as well as his actions during the campaigns, not already done so?

If he wants to put a bunch of Fox News addled old people who believe the virus is a hoax packed into a small space, well he’s really just hurting himself.

Trump is making it so easy for Ds to capture the Senate, NC was tilting R, but with this, Trump will lose not only the Senate and Gov seat, but Prez election in NC
