Look folks, here's the deal:

Click the little white box next to the link and it should copy the link to your clipboard.

Is there any way to easily select large groups of counties instead of doing them one-by-one?

A couple of ideas if possible:

1) A toggle option where when you create a map for one particular cycle, you can also switch years and have those boundaries instantly swap over (instead of having to create a new map for each year)

2) A hover-over option for vote totals/percentages for each new created state when counties are hidden (basically the same hover option for states in this config as for individual counties when they are visible)

It's possible to do with just five. The four FL panhandle ones and moving Lake County, IL into Wisconsin. That said, dropping the panhandle and entire Upper Peninsula is a much more reasonable proposition.

Los Angeles into Texas? Not exactly a clean move.

2 is actually the easiest way. Toledo -> MI. Camden -> PA.

Yeah, indeed this is the easiest way. Toledo ->MI and one of the NJ counties to PA (I personally went with Mercer since it looks a bit better)

The "Minimum counties" records I got were

2000: 1
2004: 3
2008: 26
2012: 6
2016: 2

Nope. The map doesn't count ME-2 for Trump, so this is a 269-269 result.

Pretty sure 3 is the minimum while maintaining contiguity:

Quote
Lucas (OH>MI)
Camden (NJ>PA) or York (PA>MD)
Lake (IL>WI)

Also and WRT Florida, you only need to move 3 Panhandle counties in FL to flip the state (Escambia, Santa Rosa & Okaloosa) rather than 4. Moving them plus 3 of the original 4 mentioned gets a 307-231 result (including Trump's ME-2 win) with just 6 counties moved.

I managed to flip the 2008 election with only 22 county changes.

Move Clark County, NV to AZ
Move San Bernardino County, CA to AZ
Move Lake County, IN to IL
Move Erie County, PA to NY
Move Ashtabula, Lake and Cuhayoga Counties from OH to NY
Move Philadelphia, Montgomery and Bucks Counties from PA to NJ
Move New Castle County, DE to MD
Move Greenville County, SC to NC
Move Houston, Baldwin and Mobile Counties from AL to FL
Move Jackson, Harrison, Hancock, Pearl River and Lamar Counties from MS to FL
Move St. Tammany Parish, LA to FL
Move Leon County, FL to GA

McCain flips Nevada, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Florida and (!) Delaware, and wins 271-267.

Of course TECHNICALLY you can also flip 2004 by putting LA County into Ohio and flip 2016 by putting LA County into Texas, so 1 county required, but that feels a bit against the rules.

Actually probably 270-268 because NE-02 should go to Obama, but it's still a McCain victory

I kept redrawing relentlessly the 2016 map until I managed to give all 50 states to Hillary Clinton:

Note: Oahu is one state; the other Hawaiian islands are part of Alaska
Note 2: I left D.C. intact

With 2016, you can change the result with just three bordering counties. Move Lake from IL to WI, Camden from NJ to PA, and Monroe from MI to OH.

I redrew 2012 too, to give all 50 states to Barack Obama:

Note: Again, DC is intact
Note 2: Alaska is now a colony of Seattle, while Hawaii are intact
