Inspired by a recent topic where haplogroups were discussed, I thought it would be interesting to compile a list of Presidents by haplogroup.  For fun (see note below), I also included the ancient ethnic group(s) that we currently most associate with that haplogroup and also that President’s reported ancestry.

NOTES
- The basic format is...

President (Party-State)
Haplogroup (Ancient Pan-Ethnicity Associated) … Reported Ancestry

- Haplogroups are interesting, but they (to my limited knowledge) only measure paternal ancestry.  If your male ancestor was from East Asia and somehow wound up in Europe and your entire family from that point on (besides him) was more “genetically European,” your haplogroup would still be from East Asia.
- RE: The “Ancient Pan-Ethnicity Associated” part, there is obviously no such thing as “Germanic DNA” or “Celtic DNA.”  However, that is not how this is being used; it instead working the other way around.  For example, the people who originally spread the Celtic languages are closely associated with subclades like R1b – M269 … rather than the R1b subclade making them Celtic, the fact that they were the proto-Celtic speakers “retroactively” makes that subclade associated with Celtic peoples, for the purpose of this post.
- To keep the list short, I did not include Presidents for whom I couldn't find anything.

George Washington (NP-VA)
R1b – U152 (Italo-Celtic) … English

John Adams (F-MA)
R1b – L11 (Celtic)… English

Thomas Jefferson (DR-VA)
T1a - Unspecified (Prehistoric Middle East) … English and Welsh

James Monroe (DR-VA)
I2a1a – L161.1 (Pre-Indo European Britain) … Scottish and Welsh

John Quincy Adams (DR-MA)
R1b – L11 (Celtic)… English

Andrew Jackson (D-TN)
I1 – Unspecified … Scots-Irish

James K. Polk (D-TN)
R1b – L48 (Germanic) … Scots-Irish

Zachary Taylor (W-LA)
R1b – M269 (Celtic) … English

Franklin Pierce (D-NH)
R1b – M269 (Celtic) … English

James Buchanan (D-PA)
R1b – L21 (Celtic) … Scots-Irish

Abraham Lincoln (R-IL)
R1b – U152 (Italo-Celtic) … English

Andrew Johnson (D-TN)
I2a2a – Z161 (Germanic) … Scots-Irish and
English

Ulysses S. Grant (R-IL)
R1b – U106 (Germanic) … English and Scottish

Grover Cleveland (D-NY)
R1b – L20 (Celtic) … English, Irish and German

William McKinley (R-OH)
R1b - Unspecified … English and
Scots-Irish

Woodrow Wilson (D-NJ)
R1b - Unspecified … Scots-Irish

Calvin Coolidge (R-MA)
I1 – Unspecified … English

Herbert Hoover (R-CA)
R1a – Unspecified … German and English

John F. Kennedy (D-MA)
R1b – L21 (Celtic) … Irish

Lyndon B. Johnson (D-TX)
E1b1b - EV13 (Pre-Indo European Neolithic Farmers) … English, Scots-Irish and German

Jimmy Carter (D-GA)
I1 – Unspecified (Germanic) … English and Scots-Irish

George H.W. Bush (R-TX)
R1b – M269 (Celtic) … English and Irish

Bill Clinton (D-AR)
I1 – Unspecified (Germanic) … English and Scots-Irish

George W. Bush (R-TX)
R1b – M269 (Celtic) … English and Irish

Donald Trump (R-NY)
R1b – M269 (Celtic) … German and Scottish

I am not an expert on DNA ... I just like making lists. Smiley  So, if you have some honest and constructive criticism, I would gladly take it!

Great list! The haplogroup interpretations seem fine, at least based on my knowledge.

Where are you getting them all from by the way? Looks like Eupedia has some that you don't (Tyler, Harding, not sure if I'm missing others): https://www.eupedia.com/genetics/famous_y-dna_by_haplogroup.shtml

I2 represent! I guess that's Monroe, Tyler, and A. Johnson...

I got most from Eupedia, but I think I did find a few from random sources.  It's really interesting that Monroe seems to be the only I2 President whose haplogroup strain is from a more ancient source than Indo Europeans.  As soon as I am done with grad school and have an income again, I would love to take a DNA test that would give me my paternal Y-haplogroup.  I would imagine, based off of extensive Ancestry.com research that has brought me back to at least the 1700s on all branches, that I would be a Germanic-related strand of R1b, I2 or I1.  However, there could be a total surprise in there!
