Quote
Here are all the new names on the president's list:

Judge Bridget Bade, 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals
Daniel Cameron, Kentucky attorney general
Paul Clement, former solicitor general
Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas
Senator Ted Cruz of Texas
Judge Stuart Kyle Duncan, 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals
Steven Engel, assistant attorney general at the Justice Department
Noel Francisco, former solicitor general under the Trump administration
Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri
Judge James Ho, 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals
Judge Greg Katsas, U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit
Judge Barbara Lagoa, 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals
Christopher Landau, U.S. ambassador to Mexico
Justice Carlos Muniz, Florida Supreme Court
Judge Martha Pacold, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois
Judge Peter Phipps, 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals
Judge Sarah Pitlyk, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri
Judge Allison Jones Rushing, 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals
Kate Todd, deputy White House counsel
Judge Lawrence VanDyke, 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals

If Trump wins (or another Republican wins in 2024), which of these names would have the easiest time winning Senate confirmation?

I actually wouldn't mind Justice Paul Clement.

"Stuart Kyle Duncan" sounds like a serial killer from the 70s.

This is yet another reason he needs to be voted out of office. The seating of any of these people on the Supreme Court would be a nightmare for church-state separation.

I believe this list is intended to supplement, not replace, the prior list — Barrett is still the single most likely pick for a second Trump term. This list is a bizarre combination of politicians (Cruz, Hawley, Cameron), ideologues (Judge Ho is a particularly nasty piece of work), and very normal judges (Peter Phipps has not, to my knowledge, been involved in any controversy, and his nomination sailed through the Senate unanimously). The absence of Neomi Rao is also notable.

Presumably it's engineered to drive conservative turnout, though I'd imagine the inclusion of Cruz and the like would blunt that effect...

Ah I see. I thought it was an entirely new list. Certainly the inclusion of politicians could have contradictory effects.

(if it was not clear my post was semi-sarcastical, I would not exactly be cheering for Amy Coney Barrett on the Supreme Court)
