Ad Astra likely dead.

Idiotic lawsuit, why did they even bring up racial gerrymandering?. Even the NC case didn't touch it for smart reasons. I still expect it to get struck down  but they may have opened to federal courts.

Yeah I don't get how it's a 'racial gerrymander.' Partisan gerrymander, yeah, but not a racial gerrymander.

I guess you didn’t see the news that 15% Black districts are now VRA protected lol. I think that some Dems think that any non-White Dem rep is protected, in this case Sharice Davids. Just like Val Demings is.

Like just call out the Republicans for partisan gerrymandering. That’s what they’re doing; this is no racist mastermind scheme, the Kansas Republicans just drew a crappy half baked gerrymander.

It's actually the only gerrymander possible for various reasons I explained earlier in the thread.

Republicans are appealing to the Kansas Supreme Court. I expect that the chances they prevail are virtually nil.

Weird sidenote; Kansas is the first and only state to now have RAW 2012 Pres data. Turning on swing, the shifts in white suburbs of Johnson County have been brutal.

Quite literally the square of doom for the GOP. We're talking 30+ point leftwards swings in 2 cycles. The rest of the state has p much been a wash since.

We're getting to the point where it's, if the numbers remain where they are or move even farther, cracking D votes in NE KS up is going to be an exercise in futility.

Interesting?

This seems unsurprising to me? I thought there's just like one dude in the state senate who doesn't like the new state legislative lines; other than that, it seems like they were pretty fair, they were signed by Kelly, so I was expecting the KSSC to OK those.

I guess what they did with the Lawrence/Topeka area on the Senate map is a bit fishy, but other than that the legislative maps look pretty plain to me.   I don't really know what they'd sue over.

Ye the only thing their map really does is pvercome some unfavorable geography doenst really impedes Dems ability to break the supermajority (or theoretically win the majority).

The congressional map IMO isn't really a racial gerrymander but pretty much is an objectable gerrymander. Whether that's enough to force a new map is up to the court.

Hope that if it is overturned, they don't give it back to the legistlature for a long game of hardball.

Seriously though all this gerrymander really does is possibly give the GOP KS-03 for another cycle or two. You could easily draw a map that's pretty solidly 3-1 and is fair

Here's an example:

A Trump + 16ish KS-02 should be safe for the GOP; a reminder this district really hasn't shifted much politically from 2012 overall; infact Turmp narrowly outperformed Romney's margin in this map. A Witicha + Rurals district also isn't flipping barring something very unforeseen and KS-01 is obviously safe.

I wonder what caused it?

Was it either the fact that gerrymandering is allowed or it wasn't an extreme one or was it that the plaintiffs focused too strongly on the racial aspect which was dumb.

This seat is gone as part of a GOP wave. But if there’s a Roe backlash in Johnson county, the Ds probably hold it…basically will be affected by national trends.

Davids is vulnerable but she’s not DOA. Kelly will almost certainly hold this seat even if she loses.
