Would he have won in 2014?

Given his large polling leads he would probably win by a high single digit margin.

Yes. He won reelection as Rep even in 2006 and 2008 so no reason to think he wouldn't win in the 2014 wave. But he'd likely retire this year and the seat would be a near-certain Democratic pickup.

I wonder who would have run against him in 2014. Probably Carney which sends a lot of ripple effects. Jess Scarane would have a much better chance of winning this year.

He almost certainly wins re-election in 2014.

Yeah, he would've handily defeated Coons & probably would've been re-elected in 2014. If he hadn't just retired come 2020, then he definitely would've lost this time around unless he was a party switcher, in which case he could potentially be saved.

This is why nominating electable candidates is a good thing. Why would you give up a Senate seat because you agreed with Christine O'Donnell a little bit more than Mike Castle.

Another question: what if Beau Biden challenged Mike Castle in 2014?

Beau would actually have a good chance at winning. Of course, his tenure would be short-lived.
