I know that the then Vice President wouldn't go for it, but what if he pulled it off and won the nomination? Here's my guess on the map

Senator Barack Obama (D-IL)\Senator Joe Biden (D-DE): 394 EV
Vice President Dick Cheney (R-WY)\Governor Rick Perry (R-TX): 144 EV

He loses Alaska too without Sarah Palin.

OP's map is ridiculous because it just shows Obama picking up a couple extra states he came very close to winning even against McCain. Against Cheney, it would have been an absolute massacre.

Senator Barack Obama (D-IL)/Senator Joe Biden (D-DE):498 EVs (62%)
Vice President Dick Cheney (R-WY)/Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK): 40 EVs (36%)
Others: 0 EVs (2%)

The closest states are Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, Kansas, Nebraska, Alaska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas, and South Carolina. Barack Obama's coattails are also enough for the Democrats to win Senate races in Texas, South Carolina, Kentucky, Georgia, Maine, and the Mississippi Special election in addition to the Senate seats that they won IRL.

A stronger Democratic majority in the 111th Congress would have made a public option for healthcare, cap and trade, campaign finance reform, voting rights reform, immigration reform, and a strong federal public works program (akin to the New Deal) likely to be implemented. These types of legislation would have cemented Barack Obama's legacy as one of the greatest Presidents in US history (I already consider Obama to be the third-best President in US history) and an icon for progressivism and modern liberalism.

Vice President Dick Cheney (R-WY) / Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK)
Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) / Senator Joe Biden (D-DE) ✓

Yes, it's a blowout, no, it's not Reagan '84. Polarization and opposition to Obama was strong even then. The swap doesn't make a humungous difference except in depressing Republican turnout even more. A neocon is a neocon is a neocon. I guarantee zero McCain voters would have voted Obama just because Cheney would be running.

The surprise flip of the night is West Virginia.

Barack Obama/Joe Biden 60% 461 EV
Dick Cheney/Sarah Palin 37% 77 EV

Alaska really only goes Cheney because Palin is on the ticket.

Look, John McCain had net favorability with Democrats. Cheney was the most unpopular person in the country. He also had immense health issues
