Will the commission do a better job avoiding county splits?

Will the new official map have more or less county splits?
I assume less, but it could go either way.

There really should be less if they do their jobs. My SoCal map has 1 riverside-san Diego, 1 riverside-san Bernardino, 1 LA-san Bernardino, 1 LA-Orange, and 1 LA-Ventura.

I'm so puzzled about the current CA-47 because OC residents unsuccessfully sued to stop the county split. Would you consider the current CA-47 LA/OC split a minor inconvenience or a gross monstrosity?

What happens if you create an Imperial CD that takes in some of the East County all the way to Chula Vista in SD and is down to D+7 or D+8? How is the rest of the map effected?

If you use Imperial that way on a 52 seat map you end up breaking up COIs or crossing counties twice.

But what ramifications do you see in the broader map? Like what is paired with what, etc.

Mostly just splitting the Temecula Valley, pushing the teal toward MV, the tan takes more of Riverside, causing Lake Elsinore and some of Murrieta to go with Corona. Doesn't help Riverside or Imperial County at all, but Ken Calvert would be really happy. (Or you could cut into San Bernardino County more but I don't think that's a good idea)

Why does California traditionally have so many county splits, while Iowa has few, if any?

Nunes likely runs in CA-08 (pink).

Can he win there? It's probably less than 50k people shared with his current district.

R+11

Any other district and he faces a Dem incumbent.

McCarthy would take Bakersfield. Nunes would lose in the new Visalia district. CA-08 seems to be the only nearby district that is Republican enough that McCarthy doesn't hold.

Well, having barely anything to do with an area never stopped a prominent California Republican before, so I guess I could see it. Maybe Victorville would prefer his seniority and "talents" to someone homegrown.

From most maps I've seen here, CA-42 (Calvert) remains Riverside County-only. Is it unlikely CA-42 will share with other counties?

In my maps it goes into SD county.

Wouldn稚 that be kind of odd to split it?

I don't really like tying SD and OC together.
