Ricardo Lara has a corruption scandal. What happens to him in 2022?

I see him being pressured into retirement.

He shouldn't have won in the first place. Makes you wonder why people were saying Maryland is more likely to vote Democrat than California.

He won because people didn't fall for Steve Poizner's independent trick and he will win again if he runs in 2022 because California doesn't trust Republicans.

If Lara runs again he will face a primary challenge.

Agreed. It's more likely that he would lose to another Democrat, but I think if there's one statewide race in California where a moderate Republican might have an opening in a Biden midterm, it's this one.

Does he face a primary challenge, or will he retire?

But who will the CA GOP convince to run in 2022 ?

I suppose Poizner could try a second independent bid. It could work.

Which Democratic candidates would run if Lara retires?

I live in California and follow California news daily. This is the first time I've heard of a corruption scandal with him.

Having read up on it, I still think he'll win re-election. Although I think Falcouner would have more luck winning this race as an Independent than he would in the gubernatorial as a Republican (Even if he might not have the experience needed for the job). Basically, I see three scenarios (In order)

1. Lara wins re-election by 2018 margins
2. Lara drops out and the Democratic nominee wins
3. Falcouner runs as an Independent and wins by 1-3%
