I'm bored so I did a thing.

Longest streaks of any state voting for a winning candidate's party:

No Republican has ever won without Ohio, North Dakota, Arizona, or Alaska.

No Democrat has ever won without DC or Hawaii.

Last Republican to win without Indiana: Hayes (1876)
Last Republican to win without Kansas, South Dakota, Utah, or Wyoming: McKinley (1896)
Last Republican to win without Idaho or Montana: McKinley (1900)
Last Republican to win without Nebraska: Taft (1908)

Last Democrat to win without Massachusetts, Minnesota, or Rhode Island: Wilson (1916)

Last Republican to win without Florida, Oklahoma, or Tennessee: Coolidge (1924)

Last Democrat to win without Delaware, Maryland, or New York, or Pennsylvania: Truman (1948)

Last Republican to win without Kentucky: Eisenhower (1952)
Last Republican to win without Arkansas, Missouri, North Carolina, or South Carolina: Eisenhower (1956)

Last Democrat to win without Wisconsin: Kennedy (1960)

Last Republican to win without Alabama*, Louisiana*, Mississippi*, or Texas: Nixon (1968)

Last Democrat to win without CA, CT, IL, IA, ME, MI, NV, NH, NJ, NM, OR, VT, or WA: Carter (1976)

Last Republican to win without Georgia: Reagan (1980)
Last Republican to win without West Virginia: Bush (1988)

Last Democrat to win without Colorado or Virginia: Clinton (1996)

*Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi last voted for a national Democrat in a Republican victory in 1956.

Very interesting.  It's crazy to think of a Republican victory without Indiana.  One correction, however.  Coolidge won without Tennessee in 1924.  He was the last Republican to win the election without winning a single former Confederate state.

Something interesting to think about:

-If New Hampshire had voted Republican in 2004 and 2016, it would have been a state that no Republican President lost.

The streaks most in jeopardy:

Trump could win without Arizona.
Biden could win without Wisconsin.
Biden could (and probably would) win without Iowa.

In the next several elections, I could see a Democrat winning without Minnesota, Michigan, or New Hampshire.

And in the next several elections, I could see a Republican winning without Georgia or North Carolina.

Fixed Tennessee. I knew it looked strange to me that no Republican since Taft has won without it.

If not for William Jennings Bryan, KS, SD, WY, ID, MT, and NE also would be states no Republicans lost.  And Trump is the first Republican to lose Colorado to someone other than WJB.

There wasn’t really a Republican victory without Indiana, since Hayes stole that election.

Didn't Arkansas vote for George Wallace in 1968?

Yes it did. By the way you can see "the last time a [insert party] won without [insert state]" with all the combinations you want on the site 270toWin.
