Corey Johnson should be in this poll.

Wiley would probably be my top choice; I like her work with CCRB and her profile/activism generally, though lack of political experience is a bit of a concern. Shaun Donovan would be great, and even though I was pretty opposed to his presidential bid, Andrew Yang could be a good choice.

None of these options are bad, but I'd probably stay away from Diaz Jr (his repudiations of his father's awfulness have been meek and unconvincing at best) and Crowley (he's a political has-been and doesn't reflect the diversity/direction of the city, is not a change-maker).

Don't know enough about Eric Adams to weigh in. I am ambivalent on Christine Quinn.

Corey Johnson would be a similar choice to Quinn but probably slightly better (fresher political experience, more in-line with the direction of the city, no prior losses). Scott Stringer could be a good option but probably similar issues to Crowley. There's been a social media campaign to get John Mulaney to run following him joking about it on the Tonight Show. That could be hilarious.

Corey Johnson, of course. The fact that the frontrunner isn't even in this poll is...questionable.

Joe Crowley. I don't know all of othe others, but Crowley is a fine guy. Yang is not my first choice, but he'd be kind of interesting.

Corey Johnson seems to be good on housing and transit. Don't really get the appeal of Yang for this position beyond name rec tbh. As far as I’m aware, he’s never shown much of an interest in city-specific issues (MTA, homelessness, public schools, police, etc) and it seems like he’d be a better fit for Congress since he clearly cares more about federal issues.

I accidentally hit other, but meant to vote for yang. I didn't think he was ready for the presidency despite his interesting ideas, but I think he could potentially make a good mayor.

Why would anyone vote for Yang for anything, much less a position that matters?  What am I missing here?

People recognize his name and think his ideas are more creative and effective than they really are.

Because he's better than the sort of NYC machine hacks that are the alternative and gave us DeBlasio.

Because he's better than the sort of NYC machine hacks that are the alternative and gave us DeBlasio.

I know we all fairly s*** on de Blasio now, but this was his exact pitch in 2013, when he was running as the progressive alternative to the Bloomberg continuity candidate Christine Quinn or black establishment guy Bill Thompson. Heck, even if you look at this old thread, he was the preferred candidate of a lot of the more left-leaning posters.

Obviously, we've all been disappointed by the governing, but one of the biggest problems imo is that the shock primary win let him build up some delusions of grandeur that he could become a national progressive champion and he was disinterested in a lot of city issues. Andrew Yang out of all people probably isn't going to be any better on that front.
