I'm pretty sure this idea has been done before, but I couldn't find the thread. Mods: please move thread if this is in the wrong place.

The idea is simple. Only count states you have visited and add up the electoral college numbers and see who "wins". Go back as far as you like. I've picked a few of the more notable elections for my timeline, but it doesn't really matter what years you pick.

I've been pretty lucky to visit a lot of states the last couple years... and I was going to visit some more before the COVID-19 madness hit. Hopefully this summer! 😄

I haven't been to any states that voted for Trump yet, and I don't really see that changing anytime soon. I believe 1984 would be the last time a Republican wins if these states are the only ones that vote.

Clinton 84
Trump 0 (lol)

Multiple people have Virginia as the tipping-point state lol. Does Atlas have a secret longing for trends to go back a few years?

Obama/Biden: 177 EV

Romney/Ryan: 142 EV

Tipping Point: Ohio

2016

Trump/Pence: 180 EV
H. Clinton/Kaine: 139 EV

Tipping Point: Arizona

Huh, how funny, the region of my tipping point is the opposite of the actual one for this decade.

2016:

Trump: 222
Clinton: 90

Wow, I’ve spent the vast majority of my life in Trump states.

Although, if we change it to 2008:

Obama: 203
McCain: 105

Obviously just subtract IN and NC for 2012.

1996:

Clinton: 191
Dole: 114

1992:

Clinton: 179
Bush: 126

And if Biden wins every possible swing state this year:

Biden: 253
Trump: 59

Just for fun, map of all states I’ve visited that have voted Democratic at some point in my lifetime:

Dem: 250
Rep: 62

I really need to visit the west coast and New England at some point. Would put the Dems over 270 in some of these maps!

Clinton 145

Obama 194
Romney 136

Using the rule of saying that your foot must have touched the ground of the state to count (i.e. no airport layovers or car pass-throughs unless you stopped in the state).

I've been to: Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and the District of Columbia.

I'll just go from after the Civil War:

Grant 1868 - 1872
Democratic in every election 1876 through 1924
Hoover in 1928
Democratic in every election 1932 through 1964
Nixon 1968 - 1972
Carter in 1976
Republican in every election 1980 through 2004
Obama 2008 - 2012
Trump 2016

Funnily, for decades this group would have been the same as North Carolina alone, before breaking up in 2012.
