Immigrants don’t live on the streets. In fact, many need to prove that they and their sponsor(s) are well above the federal poverty line as a requirement to be approved. It’s not like bunking in their sponsors’ place of residence for a few weeks will expend so much of our resources.

Will someone sponsored by an employer live in the office?

And if it’s a family sponsor, then above the poverty line does not = ability to sustain another adult / family.

Lastly, you say “bunking in their sponsors’ place of residence for a few weeks.” NYC, the place that gets the most immigrants, won’t open in a few weeks.

I mean, immigrants that come here on workers visas generally have living accommodations set up anyway when they move here lol. And yes I expect immigrants to live with their sponsors because they’re generally fiancés, spouses, parents or other family members. I know well enough that it’s hard to support people when you’re just above the poverty line because I was once a poor immigrant myself but you might be surprised at how accommodating family members are of their relatives who recently arrived in the country.

I also saw a statistic that like 1/3 of US doctors are immigrants.

60k officially dead in the US now because of the virus in a few weeks.

And that’s only the numbers from hospitals and nursing homes.

Based on weekly death data from other countries (which are tracking all deaths in a country, also those at home), the real numbers could be 50% higher or twice as high.

Not sure why people are still quoting these grossly inaccurate numbers, like they mean anything. But okay.

I know right, CDC data says they are actually too low:

Doesn’t really matter if states open up, people won’t go back to normal behavior until they think things are safe. People don’t want to die on the alter of “the economy.”

Still doesn’t look like people’s opinions have changed much on opening up:

The Wisconsin Supreme Court continues to be the worst:

Lame duck showing its ugly face here. I wonder if Evers would try again once Karofsky is on the court, especially with Hagedorn writing the dissent.

She doesn't join until August, but given Hagedorn flipped, he would presumably have the court's backing to act aggressively against a fall wave of COVID-19 and push the limits as DeWine did.

Another silver lining is I now assume Hagedorn wouldn't go along with the rest of the court in stealing redistricting veto power from the governor.

Looking at the responses to the WI supreme Court decision on Twitter really has me thinking. The left is so out of touch these days, it is unbelievable.  They are appealing to emotions and flat out accusing conservatives of murder without thinking of the true consequences of keeping these lockdowns in place. The death models overestimated this, which is good, and we need to open up, badly, ASAP. The economic toll this will have for the next decade is already immense. The authoritarian precedent this sets is also really bad. But you look at which party is advocating for what and maybe you start to see who is for freedom and who is for tyranny.

Yes, really, because Twitter is representative of the population at large. 🙄

No, I agree with you there. Most Democrats are not insane. The people who feel a need to share their opinion on Twitter usually have an agenda. It just feels really gross that Americans are advocating against their freedoms. Did their grandparents really fight for this?
