Dettol And Lysol Maker Warns Against Drinking And Injecting Disinfectant After Trump Suggestion

Quote
The makers of Dettol and Lysol, have been forced to issue a strong warning telling people not to inject or drink disinfectant, after President Donald Trump contradicted experts and wrongly suggested it could be ingested to treat coronavirus.

Petition to change the title of this thread.

Most people will realize that the title is sarcasm, but there could be some people who actually do it and believe what Trump is saying and drink the Kool Aid.

Do we really want Kalwejt being locked up for attempted murder ?

No one on Atlas actually is going to inject themselves with Lysol to kill Covid-19.

Nobody ?

Are you sure ?

The combination of an insane POTUS and a thread title like this makes it possible ...

At this rate, we'll hit 1,000,000 cases by Monday.

There are already over a million cases of coronavirus in the United States, and probably several million at this point, as the serology studies have indicated. However, why was there such a significant increase in the number of cases today? Coronavirus is on the verge of overtaking the Vietnam War in terms of the number of officially recorded casualties, and I don't think the White House's estimate of 60,000 is going to hold up.

I am sad to say that 60,000 is probably going to be reached by this coming Tuesday (4/28).

That is only the official number from hospitals and nursing homes ...

If European weekly death numbers of ALL people (also those at home) are any indicator, total deaths could be 50% to 2x higher ...

60k officially dead in the US now because of the virus in a few weeks.

And that’s only the numbers from hospitals and nursing homes.

Based on weekly death data from other countries (which are tracking all deaths in a country, also those at home), the real numbers could be 50% higher or twice as high.

Not sure why people are still quoting these grossly inaccurate numbers, like they mean anything. But okay.

What do you think is inaccurate ?

The real number of COVID deaths in the US is probably much higher already, 130.000 to 150.000 - if you factor in people dying at home.

Those people are not showing up in the daily hospital and nursing home statistics.

Not directly related to US, but a huge deal if true: Now there are reports the first Covid19 case in France could be dating back to November 2019. For reference, the PRC informed WHO on December 31. Haven't seen US media picking this up yet, but if confirmed, we may be talking about a much earlier spread in the US and elsewhere.

I think it is possible that China set this virus up deliberately to destabilize the West and especially the US economy.

For China it doesn’t matter if 3.000 of their people die or not, if they achieve their long term goals abroad ...

White House Looks to Austria, South Korea on Reopening Ideas

By Josh Wingrove, Boris Groendahl, and Kanga Kong

Quote
The Trump administration has cited success stories in South Korea and Austria as it calls for Americans to return to work -- but those countries moved faster than the U.S. to combat the pandemic and have been more cautious in reopening their economies.

And a third country U.S. officials once regarded as a model, Singapore, is now struggling with a resurgence of the outbreak.

Secretary of State Michael Pompeo and White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett have said in the past two weeks that the Trump administration is monitoring those three nations as it plans for the U.S. to reopen.

But they offer flawed comparisons at best, given the much larger size of the U.S. and its outbreak, as well as measures taken to curb the virus.

Austria acted faster than the U.S. to clamp down on business and social life, while South Korea much more rapidly built a robust testing regime.

Yet they are both now just edging toward easing restrictions, even with infection rates far lower than the U.S., and South Korea has seen a new flare-up in nightclubs. Singapore, meanwhile, has seen a second wave that has forced a pivot to mass testing.

China Cover-up ?

More athletes claim they contracted COVID-19 at October Military World Games in Wuhan

Quote
More athletes have revealed that they fell ill during the Military World Games in October when the Chinese city of Wuhan hosted the event months before the COVID-19 outbreak.

Taking place in October, the allegations came two months before the first identification of COVID-19 by China.

Close to 10,000 competitors competed at the Games from over 100 countries during the nine-day event.

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, German volleyball player Jacqueline Brock alleged that she got COVID-19 despite no cases being reported until December.

She said: "After a few days, some athletes from my team got ill, I got sick in the last two days.

"I have never felt so sick, either it was a very bad cold or COVID-19, I think it was COVID-19."

The 3rd major prevalence study in Austria will start next week, involving 3.500 households.

It will once again try to estimate the „shadow“ rate of infections in the population relative to the official number of cases and how many already have antibodies.

In early April, the „shadow“ figure was not all too much higher than the official number of cases in the country and somewhere between 1.4% and 8% of the population had antibodies, with 4.7% being most likely.

If you take the position that the first Amendment applies to state governments, then I don't see how forcibly closing places of worship is constitutional. I think the first and 2nd Amendments are just too broad the way they're stated.

Here, Church services are possible again:

For example, St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna has a laser system at the entrance which counts people entering the Church with masks. No more than 300 are allowed inside:

Pretty bizarre that the US could hit 100.000 deaths exactly tomorrow, Memorial Day.

To put the US numbers into context with Austria (which is experiencing some sort of 2nd „mini-wave“ recently):

USA (330 million people) 🇺🇸: 55.000 new daily cases / 400-800 dead per day

Austria (9 million people) 🇦🇹: 110 new daily cases / 1 dead per day

So, the US has ca. 13x new daily cases per capita and 11-22x as many deaths per day ...

Why do you think Austria has seen such a better outcome thus far than Italy, especially considering that it borders Northern Italy where the worst early outbreaks occurred?

(I’m not trying to prove a point; I’m genuinely curious and know nothing about Austria’s response.)

A vigorous lockdown was put in place in the 2nd week of March, when cases started to explode „thanks“ to people bringing it from Italy and tourists contracting it to Europe from our crowded ski resorts (Austria has 100 million tourists per year, so the sh*t can easily blow up again right now with the summer tourists coming in).

With the lockdown, virtually everyone stayed at home and it was largely weeded out by mid-May. Mask-wearing was made mandatory virtually everywhere in public space, which prevented a spread to our nursing homes, which were the epicenters in Northern Italy.

Later on, tracking down local clusters and isolating infected + vigorous testing was successful.

European Workers Draw Paychecks. American Workers Scrounge for Food.

Quote
In the pandemic, the United States has relied on expanded unemployment benefits, while European governments have subsidized wages, avoiding a surge in joblessness.

The pandemic has ravaged Europeans and Americans alike, but the economic pain has played out in starkly different fashion.

The United States has relied on a significant expansion of unemployment insurance, cushioning the blow for tens of millions of people who have lost their jobs, with the assumption that they will be swiftly rehired once normality returns.

European countries — among them Denmark, Ireland, Britain, France, the Netherlands, Spain and Austria — have prevented joblessness by effectively nationalizing payrolls, heavily subsidizing wages and enabling paychecks to continue uninterrupted.
