DeSantis pulled this out during his presser today

snip

And? Seems pretty straightforward to me.

I was just posting the chart stop being so God damn snarky

except it is a blatantly dishonest chart

Seems highly dishonest to me to compare the observed outcomes with the upper limit of the projections instead of the mean of the projections.

Of course people like you would think its dishonest

Huh

SARS-COV-2 might be here to stay as it becomes endemic.

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/covid-19-may-be-here-to-stay

Quote
Projections by specialists suggest that periodical physical distancing measures may become a necessity if the new coronavirus becomes a seasonal occurrence.

In the study paper, which appears in the journal Science, the researchers explain that it is likely that the new coronavirus will become endemic, with infections ebbing and flowing throughout the coming years. The same happens with cold and flu viruses.

This being the case, the authors suggest that physical distancing may become an intermittent requirement until 2022.

To understand how transmission patterns of SARS-CoV-2 might evolve, the researchers looked to the dynamics of two seasonal coronaviruses: beta-coronaviruses OC43 and HKU1. These are two common human coronaviruses that cause cold-like symptoms.

According to the team’s simulation, infections with SARS-CoV-2 might also become a seasonal occurrence, as is the case with the other beta-coronaviruses that infect humans.

Because there are currently no vaccines or targeted treatments for infections with the new coronavirus, the researchers project that on-and-off physical distancing may be a necessary measure over the next couple of years. This is to prevent hospitals from becoming overwhelmed.

“What seems to be necessary in the absence of other sorts of treatments are intermittent [physical] distancing periods,” says Kissler.

The investigators emphasize the need to strike a balance between healthcare capacity and economic resources on a case-by-case basis.

On the one hand, they say that some transmission of the virus may create a level of herd immunity, which could reduce its impact.

“By permitting periods of transmission that reach higher prevalence than otherwise would be possible, they allow an accelerated acquisition of herd immunity,” notes study co-author Prof. Marc Lipsitch.

On the other hand, too-stringent physical distancing measures might mean that humans cannot establish herd immunity at all, which would make a resurgence of the virus particularly problematic.

According to the study paper, “longer and more stringent temporary [physical] distancing did not always correlate with greater reductions in epidemic peak size.”

Alarmist propaganda. This paints an overtly pessimistic scenario for vaccines in which one doesn't get approved for years, which is highly unlikely given how much promise several vaccine candidates have already given. Secondly, if we don't find a vaccine I guarantee you the world would just let it spread rather than social distance on and off.

This non peered review study from clickbait Thailand Medical News is clearly the gold standard. Well done, excellent science fact. Don't be so quick to proliferate fake news, this is the second time Sad

Also, antibodies are not even close to the only immunity mechanism the body has anyhow.

But it's the measurement being used to reopen the economies.

And the "study" might as well have been published in the Onion

A lab in LA just reported 1200 backlogged positive results, so today's California numbers don't look very good.

Georgia's reopening so I'll just be resigning myself to my inevitable death as my health isn't great.

Yeah. My stepdad is living there now. He has COPD and was a smoker most of his life (12 years since his last one though!) and is in his late 60s. I don't see this going well for him.

Stay as safe as you can, Hammy.

Governor Polis has announced that the stay-at-home order will end on April 26, as originally scheduled: https://gazette.com/news/local/polis-says-stay-at-home-order-will-end-sunday-outlines-first-phase-for-reopening-the/article_59b7b738-833f-11ea-aabb-776f58e5104e.html, and outlined the first phase for reopening the state, which he calls "Safer at Home." Mask wearing will remain mandatory for essential employees, bars/restaurants will still be required to offer curbside services, and protocols for keeping workforce/customer capacity down and for encouraging work from home will be in place. He says that depending on how things go, more activities may be allowed to resume in mid-May.

I'm surprised that Polis decided not to extend the order, and he seems to be taking the concerns about the economy seriously enough. But then again, he has been one of the most cautious and measured out of all the Governors in terms of the actions which he has taken, and certainly more so than most other Democrats, so it shouldn't be that much of a surprise. And he is a businessman, so he can perhaps sympathize with those concerned about the bottom line.

Look, all I know is that I'm running out of movies to watch -- just had to go deep into the bargain bin with Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves.  MAJOR problem here, folks.

I could - y'know - study, but where's the fun in that?

Dozens of movies come out every week and half of them are good.

Have fun!

Brian Kemp is not an evil man. He is doing this because he fears the long term socioeconomic consequences of being on lockdown for several months. Whether this is the right decision or not remains to be seen.

But again, is it worth the risk to his residents' lives?

Isn't there an outbreak going on in Denver?

I haven't heard much about Denver in recent weeks, but it wouldn't surprise me if this were the case. I live in Colorado Springs, and Denver is of course a much more densely populated (and populous in general) city. Nevertheless, I am of the viewpoint that a shutdown is unsustainable beyond June, and while I may have extended the order if I were in a position of authority, I think that what is being proposed here is reasonable enough. In states where the curve has flattened, we can begin to take steps to adjust our response.

So Georgia has one of the biggest hotspots in the nation right now and Kemp decides right now is a good idea to literally reopen the entire state. Good lord I'm not sure there is a dumber thing to do right now. He's not even doing the phase reopening. He's just straight up reopening theaters, movie theaters, barber shops, restaurants, bowling alleys, GYMS?! Does he want the state to have the most cases in the nation?!

With the rate that states are going, this is going to be a continued outright pandemic for months ahead with more cases and more deaths. It's shameful.

Realistically, cases are never going to go down to 0, there has to be a balance between being fully open and closed

What is your timeline for reopening the economy? A shutdown lasting for several months is unsustainable.

I notice a lot of people confuse lockdowns with business closures. Lockdowns are much, much more severe.

The economy shouldn't reopen until June IMO. The nation still doesn't have a clear handle on this, and people need to stop prioritizing the economy over lives. If the economy reopens too soon, which it feels like it is, then we are going to have more and more loss of life. Not to mention when you have states like Georgia which aren't even following the "powerpoint" that Trump's admin set up, and are just straight up reopening everything like nothing happened.
