Yeah I'm not effing around with this crap until there's vaccine. Teleworking as much as possible. Trips to get groceries are about all I'm planning to do. Maybe some more family visits but we all wear masks. Still wash my hands after handling the mail.

And we have people, even on this forum, seriously advocating for deliberate infection camps. You can't make this up.

Those people are just absolutely out of touch with reality.

Bit personal but today I learned a relative I've lived in close proximity to for the past 2 weeks tested positive for COVID-19. I practiced all social distancing and mask-wearing measures in the book out in public but admittedly less so around the house. Anyways I'm going in to get tested on Monday but let me just say that this is an incredibly humbling experience. COVID-19 has basically been "over" in my area since March (<200 active cases from 4000+) yet here I am. I have mild symptoms but honestly, these only started when I learned about my exposure and are probably placebo. That being said I have very little doubt given 2 weeks of proximity that I will test positive. Just hoping my elderly relatives I also saw a bit at the time do not.

Wear a mask. It's not that hard. We're in for the long haul with this.

4 coworkers tested positive. Probably two more who are still waiting on results but showing symptoms.

We work in a confined space.  My test came back negative. I’m the only one who wears a mask the entirety of our shift... but I know that’s not 100% and is only very effective when everyone wears one.

Still, it’s scary and stressful. It’s only summer, when viruses aren’t supposed to be big concerns; I can’t imagine what winter is going to look like.

The only way out of this is with decent leadership, and now even then it'll take a long time.  We're not getting out of this anytime soon.

This virus might drain and drag down the US to a point of no return.

COVID-19 deaths in Vietnam = 0.

That is bordering on unbelievable.

Even Australia has 108 deaths, but i guess the majority of our outbreaks were through rampant stupidity.

Trump's response to this pandemic has been absolutely horrendous. If he had heeded the warnings about this virus from early on, utilized the pandemic plans that had been developed by the Obama Administration, worn a mask, and refrained from calling this a "hoax" or downplaying its effects, we would be in a much better position. But of course, this is Trump, so what should we have expected? Every other President in recent memory, even Jimmy Carter and George W. Bush, would be handling this better than he has.

I don't even know what to think anymore. The spread of conspiracies is making the virus spread. Contact tracing is how countries that have been successful have done it. You have to get people who have been in contact with positive cases to quarantine.

The number of cases today is Florida is the highest both in terms of actual number, and in terms of cases per capita at .72 cases/1000 (which breaks a record set by Arizona on July 1 with .67 cases/1000).

I wish we got more data on what % of people being tested and turning up positive were asymptomatic.
Because the reduction in CFR in states with high case counts today continues to be dramatic, even accounting for any lag in deaths.

Florida now has around 270,000 confirmed cases.  New York hit the mark of 270,000 on April 24.
By April 24, New York had already had 21,000 deaths, while Florida has only 4,200 deaths, a reduction in CFR of 80%.

It would be really informative to get a breakdown of how much of this 80% reduction in deaths is due to greater testing, how much is better treatment, how much is demographics, etc.

I think it’s much more likely that the Deep State has falsified the tests.

You mean you think Florida actually has a lot fewer cases than they are reporting?

Well I mean, I technically am, although it’s for people who don’t wear masks.
Plus they will be under house arrest and won’t be able to leave so they can’t infect the community nearby.

Anecdotal, but at the University/Hospital my mother works at, nearly a thousand high risk workers will be given the Moderna vaccine.

That’s excellent news!  Do you know the timetable for the study?
I would hope that if it shows preliminary effectiveness, they would be able to expand to more high risk groups before approval to be made available to the general public.

I remember when awareness of the AIDS crisis was crossing over to the mainstream and I decided the answer was simple: divide the population into people who'd tested positive vs. people who hadn't had sex or who tested negative for HIV, and only let people have sex within their own group, and that would stop the epidemic. I didn't get why the government didn't figure this out. I think I was 9 years old.
