Right now, Larry Hogan is the only viable candidate who can win a deep blue state Senatorial election.

No, for reasons outlined in several posts already.

Highly doubtful, but Hogan's AA lt. gov. could give Dems a run in a Biden midterm.

Maybe.  Being such a liberal state it gives the Republican candidate the freedom to just be a democrat on everything except economic issues.  I could see that appealing to enough Montgomery County voters after the SALT deduction cap and the current economic climate.  I also don't see why there would be Republican fatigue when the Governor is doing a very good job and is pretty popular.

No one knows who either of them are here.

Franchot will win in a landslide

They can appeal to Hogan Democrats. Hogan Democrats didn't like O'Malley, Brown or Jealous. They don't like tax hikes.

That's why they like Franchot, a fiscal conservative.

Michael Steele considering a run as a Republican. If he somehow gets through the primary, he would be a very interesting candidate.

Surely Steele would be better off running as a Democrat at this point?

If I lived in MD, I'd vote for Steele. He would be good.

Can Steele get through the MDGOP's rightwing?

Can he get through JB Jennings, Pat McDonough, etc.?

I think Franchot wins, but in 2030, a Republican probably wins again

not going to lie. This shocked me. I lived in MD for a while and always assumed Rutherford would run. He was by far the best shot the GOP had

He must have read my meme post about him winning MD-SEN 2022 while Democrats hold AZ/NV from two days ago. In all seriousness, it would take a miracle for the GOP to hold this seat at this point. Likely D, and that’s being generous to Republicans.

The Pundits only care about open seats and incumbency.

Hogan's great, but this is an almost certain flip for 2022. Though it's possible that the Maryland GOP finds a way to win the governorship in the future.

It's done. Maryland is safe D and won't have another republican governor for a long long time.

In 2030, after Franchot's second term

Barry Glassman will be the next MDGOP governor

No, pretty much. Michael Steele is a joke and I hope he loses the primary.
