The year is 1948 and the situation in the United States, we will begin at the 1948 DNC/RNC and you will be able to draft candidates for Local, State, and Federal offices and we will also sim the elections using the keys. I will give an example of the use of points to influence an election:

Quote
I would like Strom Thurmond to run for Governor in 1950 for 2 points

This would make Strom Thurmond win the Governorship of South Carolina in 1950 and would set you back 2 points. This game is mainly about world-building and having fun.

Hello! I am here today to announce a new kind of game to the Election and History game field, and this is called Keys to the White House, I am sure many of you are familiar with how the Keys to the White House work, basically if 5 or fewer of the statements are false then the incumbent party will win reelection, but when 6 or more are true then the incumbent party will lose the election, just a note though that the keys only serve to predict the popular vote not the electoral college.

The Keys

Quote
1. Party Mandate: After the midterm elections, the incumbent party holds more seats in the U.S. House of Representatives than after the previous midterm elections. This Key cannot be altered through player point expenditures
2. Contest: There is no serious contest for the incumbent party nomination. This Key cannot be altered through player point expenditures
3. Incumbency: The incumbent party candidate is the sitting president. This Key cannot be altered through player point expenditures
4. Third party: There is no significant third party or independent campaign.
5. Short term economy: The economy is not in recession during the election campaign.
6. Long term economy: Real per capita economic growth during the term equals or exceeds mean growth during the previous two terms.
7. Policy change: The incumbent administration effects major changes in national policy.
8. Social unrest: There is no sustained social unrest during the term.
9. Scandal: The incumbent administration is untainted by major scandal.
10. Foreign/military failure: The incumbent administration suffers no major failure in foreign or military affairs.
11. Foreign/military success: The incumbent administration achieves a major success in foreign or military affairs.
12. Incumbent charisma: The incumbent party candidate is charismatic or a national hero. This Key cannot be altered through player point expenditures
13. Challenger charisma: The challenging party candidate is not charismatic or a national hero. This Key cannot be altered through player point expenditures

Points:
Points can be earned through a lot of ways, the most common ways on AH.com are wikiboxes and roleplay.

Cost of Offices:
Elected to State Legislature: Free
Elected to HoR: 1 for 4 years
Elected to Senate or Governorship: 2, and at least 4 years spent in either the state legislature or House of Representatives
Appointed to a low-level Cabinet position: 3
Name added to Vice-Presidential Ballot: 3
Appointed to a high-level Cabinet position: 4
Name added to Presidential Ballot: 5, and at least 4 years spent in any other elected or appointed office
Name added to Presidential Ballot with no prior experience: 7

Other Point Expenditures:
Boost a major party downballot: 3 points
Boost a minor party downballot: 6 points
Change a Key (Player decides if value is true or negative, can be done once per player every 2 elections): 10

Character Sheet:
While characters are not required to play, I do suggest that you create a character as it will make it easier to roleplay, but you can still earn/spend points if you don't have a created character.

A different America
1948 DNC and RNC

The RNC

The more interesting of the two primaries is the Republican party, Governor Thomas Dewey the nominee from 1944 is the frontrunner, while the boy wonder Former Governor of Minnesota Harold Stassen won the most primaries this year, the other major candidates are General Douglas McArthur who is beloved by the American people for his role in the Pacific Campaign in World War II, US Senator from Michigan Arthur Vandenburg, and Governor Earl Warren of California.

Candidates
Governor Thomas E. Dewey
Senator Arthur Vandenburg
General Douglas MacArthur
Governor Harrold Stassen
Governor Earl Warren

Dewey gets my vote in this round due to his establishment support
The DNC

The primary candidates are the incumbent President Harry S. Truman and Richard Russell of Georgia who is fighting against the President's desegregation of the military. Truman is favored for the nomination and there is almost no way Russell would achieve the nomination himself.

Candidates
President Harry S. Truman
Senator Richard R. Russell Jr.
Truman gets +2 incumbency bonus and my vote for the nomination

A different America

The RNC: Vice Presidential selection

With Governor Earl Warren of California selected as the GOP Presidential nominee for 1948, the choice is now for Vice President, Warren is the first westerner to head the GOP's ticket since their original nominee John C. Fremont in 1856, PPT of the Senate Arthur Vandenburg, House Speaker Joseph Martin, Governor Thomas Dewey, Governor Harold Stassen, and Representative Charles Haddage of Indiana are the primary candidates for Vice President.

The selection will end at 7pm EST on Sunday night

Apologies for asking if this seems rude or something like that, but is this dead or are you still working on it? If the latter, do you think you need some help with the Warren administration?

It's not dead I promise, but I have been sick with thankfully a non-COVID related illness and it was my birthday this past weekend. Not to mention I have finals coming up, but I would like some help doing the basic write up if anyone is interested, probably just for this turn.

Due to my perpetual slothfulness and sickness, the turn was delayed for those new players we have you can post on the 1952 general election thread, and all the new players are accepted. I'm sorry about this taking so long but this is the exception not the rule going forward.

Wowzers, that was a crushing blow for the GOP. What was the NPV totals for both tickets and how long until the next turn is posted, so we can be ready for it?

Edit : Also, anyone want to take any guesses as to who will be the GOP candidates for '56? my money is on Dewey, Nixon, or Knight, but any other ideas?

As with last turn you'll post your actions for 52-56 in the 1952 thread then I'll probably post the new turn next week about midway through

The RNC will be up tomorrow night, and then 48 hours later the GOP Vice Presidential selection and then 48 hours and then the General election campaign which you all will have 5 days to complete then we will do the election and then another 3 days to write up your actions from 1956-1960.

Would it be alright if we post our decisions to the character decisions today?

Yea, for those who post their decisions today they'll get new prompts tommorow if someone doesn't have time they'll stick with the same prompts.

Ok ladies and gents, we have the general election turn. As I laid out a few days ago you will all have 3 days to write as much to your heart's content about your character's actions during this time.

When will we be getting more points for our actions? Curious since we haven't gotten them since the 1952 VP selection for the Democrats.

You've been getting points I just haven't been announcing them I'll make sure to do that for the midterm tommorow

Unless otherwise specified i believe that the period for updates is usually 3 days. Correct me if i am wrong though.

Yea usually, between the updates I will give y'all 3 days. Just because I feel that 2 days seems a little too soon to let everyone have time to think through their options.

Also it would be nice if we could get our points sometime before the Conventions end, as that's where the cutoff for spending points is, if i remember correctly.

Yea the turn will be up sometime tonight. With the points included.

I recommend you take a screenshot, have it be a message on Discord, and send it to JacksonHitchcock through that.

Also, using the Sandbox and giving him the link works too.

So, can we expect the next turn on the 15th/16th?

Yep

I don't know if anybody feels this way, but i am so tense with all of this Convention stuff going on right now. Especially since there's still two days until the update.

Conventions until the 70s were always a tense affair, one step away from another 1924 DNC, so it's obvious it'd be tense, but I think that's what makes it fun

Also, it gives us things to do as we wait for the next turn.

Oh yeah i definitely agree with both of those things. I still have a post that i am writing at the moment.

When we get to the 70's the primaries will be a lot more interactive, the only reason they're not as much now is because they didn't have a super big effect on the nominating process, i.e. Kefauver in real life and in-game in 1952, Kennedy in the game, and a few other examples. Though with no 2/3 majority required it's not really possible for a 1924 Scenario to occur.

I mean i don't think it's dead, but there might be need for an explanation for this delay.

Sorry, I meant to finish it last night, but I had a pretty bad headache.
