At least 16 people have been killed now in one of the most horrific acts in our nation's history. The rampage went on for 12 hours and spanned nearly 50 miles. The killer was making his way towards Halifax, a major urban center, before being neutralized by police. At least one officer has lost her life. ☹️

Was the shooter actually in a police vehicle and uniform, or was that early misreporting?

Police vehicle confirmed. Mountie uniform I'm not sure but what I read earlier today leans towards "probably yes".

there is an answer to your strawman, but this thread really isn't the place for it.  If you actually care and aren't just flag waving the first chance you got after a tragedy like a asshole would do, feel free to start a new thread.

According to this cbc article the shooter seems to have no connections with some of the victims, was wearing a police uniform for at least some period of time during the rampage, and was driving a "mock up" car made to look like a police vehicle. This is so terrible...

But its not really a strawman is it, unfortunately?

You hear it literally EVERY TIME after there is a mass shooting atrocity in the US.

I think he might have dreamed of being a RCMP officer growing up, but had his application denied. Apparently, on his high school yearbook it said 'Future RCMP officer'.

I'm sure that someone who would do this was the portrait of mental and spiritual stability two months ago. Roll Eyes

Yeah, blaming the lockdown for this is a bit of a stretch and then some.

First I will note that I have deep respect for Meclazine's contributions here.
But this specific case, the lockdown causing this or so it did allegedly, doesn't actually make sense. First, this person had these issues long prior. Second, Canada actually did not do strict lockdowns as much as other countries, so you can't use lockdown as a reason for this to happen. Thirdly and finally, few of the shooting's actual details would have been altered much at all by corona virus (though I might be wrong here).

Saddening loss of life here. I hope the pain does not bear too long on the loved ones of the victims and that they heal from this in any way they can.

Not our first mass shooting either...

2017, Quebec City: 7 killed at mosque, hate crime

2014, Edmonton: 8 killed, 7 were family members

2006, Shedden ON: 8 killed in biker gang conflict

1996, Vernon BC: 9 killed at family party

1989, Montreal: 14 women killed at college, hate crime

This.

It's still early days, but thus far we know that the shooter had a car done up like an RCMP vehicle, was wearing an RCMP uniform, and spent the latter part of his rampage randomly pulling over motorists and shooting them. This was probably planned for quite some time and the MO was negatively impacted by lockdowns if it was impacted at all.

Yeah. Some good points. My blunt assessment may have been premature but they shot him so we will never know.

I was assuming a similarly strict lockdown to the one we have here.

It just appeared on the initial appraisal of the facts that dressing up as a mountie was pretty 'kooky'.
