It is 298 AC. King Robert Baratheon, First of His Name, died due to an injury sustained during a hunt in the Kingswood. In the weeks leading up to his death, rumors began to swirl in court that the three royal children, Joffrey, Tommen, and Marcella, were not the King's true children. With the King unexpectedly dead, the issue of succession is now at the fore.
The late King's brother, Stannis Baratheon, Lord of Dragonestone, has announced a claim to the Iron Throne from his castle. The Dowager Queen, Cersei Lannister, is promoting her son, Joffrey, as the late King's true son and heir. Lord Eddard Stark, Hand of the King, fled King's Landing upon the King's death, fearing for his safety and that of his family, and has established a camp in the Crownlands.
Rumor has it that King Robert named Lord Stark as regent of the realm on his death bed. Will the Northern Lord fight for that claim? The late King's other brother, the young Renly Baratheon, Lord of Storm's End, is also rumored to be building support for his own claim to the Iron Throne.
With no fewer than four potential claimants to the Iron Throne, the Iron Islands and Dorne, regions with strong independent streaks, are rumbling for their own sovereignty. And word has crossed the narrow sea of a Targaryen Princess wedding a Dothraki Khal, adding another layer of complexity to this boiling pot.
This is
Death of the Stag.
Rules:Borrowed, with some modifications, from GoTFan's version of Lumine's rulesYou will roleplay as a character (such as a lord or a king) in a scenario of ASOIAF, starting in a slightly modified version of Chapter One of
A Game of Thrones. Your objectives will vary, as weill how you achieve them. Some will want independence, others will want to sit on the Iron Throne, and others will want to be the power behind the throne. A win is not a defined term. You will command armies, pass sentences, enact laws, send ravens and messengers, take part in high level intrigue, rule your realms and, of course, react to issues and crises.
Turns: Turns will last one week (give or take a few days) and consitute three months IG. All communication between players, OOC or IC, must include me. I will not accept communications outside of PM.
Assassination and Spies: Having been fun and successful in GoTFan's 'A Feast for Crows', players can send one spy per turn to a given region or city. Spies can get caught, but if successful they’ll give you key information that might prove crucial. Assassinations are restricted to a single attempt per turn, with a very high risk of getting captured. The idea is not to make assassination impossible, but to make it a truly high-risk, high-reward move for complicated situations. I may or may not leak moves regarding armies as well, to simulate scouting in real life.
Stats: We will work with GD (gold dragons, the amount of money you have), Prestige (of your character; a loss damages NPC negotiation and simulation), Legitimacy (how respected he is in his current position or rank; a loss brings severe trouble with vassals and allies). Please mind your stats; they can be determinant at dice rolls, vassal relationship, and NPC negotiations.
Roleplaying: I will be enforcing roleplaying. That doesn’t mean I will force all the players into a corner, but I can cancel orders that are too out of character or out of place. To use an exmaple, Stannis Baratheon will not be making peace with Roose Bolton or Cersei Lannister.
Simulation: Very simple matter, as this is my first ASOIAF game. Battles will be calculated by dice rolls. Higher number wins, margin between rolls determines the level of victory. Additional dice will be added for variables, such as force sizes, terrain, and commander skill.
Special Events: Interaction between the players should be a large part into the game, I will try to make interactive events to emphasize roleplay and allow for a more thorough immersion. There may be be Small Council meetings IG, depending on how the fight for the Iron Throne develops, just as there may be Weddings, Parleys, Tournaments, Great Councils, and so forth. Likewise, if the players wish for me to simulate a particular event, let me know. The more we roleplay the better for the game.
Sellswords and Sellsails: They will be available on this game as companies, both land and naval. They can be recruited in Essos via sending an envoy to negotiate a contract and they take a certain time to reach Westeros. A list of companies and prices will be posted, with the better known in the books as the most prestigious and powerful ones. You will be able to choose between Sellsword companies, cavalry companies, and sellsail fleets.
Cannon Material: I have not watched a single episode of Game of Thrones, the HBO show. I have read the published books. I will use the books and the Wiki of Ice and Fire as my reference materials. If there is a question, the book material will serve as the final word.
