As far as I can tell, this has nothing to do with a gubernatorial election. Probably more suitable for general discussion.

Mods, please move.

Wasn't there a Bevin Pardon-palooza thread at the start of the year, a thread where most people expected said incidents to occur once more post-pardon?

For the most part they were blowing things out of proportion, the "child rapist" Bevin pardoned was actually really sad. His accuser had recanted her testimony, but he couldn't file an appeal due to him already exhausting his appeals decades earlier. However, in this case it does look like Bevin s*** the bed.

It's fitting to have a Kentucky Man headline when a Democrat narrowly edges out a Republican in this state just as we have Florida Man headlines.

Incredibly bad judgment on the part of former Governor Bevin. Perverts almost never reform.

I mean...did anybody bother reading here? The implication from the thread title and headline is that the guy broke the law again. This is just the federal government charging him for the same thing he was convicted by the state for several years ago.

Quote
The crimes alleged Tuesday stem from the same 2014 sexual assault.

Local authorities said Jones and several other people assaulted a 15-year-old boy with a sex toy while he was unconscious at a party in Hopkinsville, in Kentucky's southwest corner. The victim's colon was punctured and his bladder was injured in an assault that was recorded and uploaded to Snapchat, NBC affiliate WAVE of Louisville reported.

Bevin, a Republican, commuted Jones' sentence in December after he was lobbied by Christian County Commonwealth's Attorney Rick Boling, The Associated Press reported. Boling later apologized for the letter and asked forgiveness for the "embarrassment that I have caused this community," according to the AP.

Bevin said he commuted Jones' sentence because he believed there was "zero" evidence linking him to the crime except for the "testimony of kids who were getting a better deal by throwing [him] under the bus," the Courier-Journal newspaper of Louisville reported.

Wouldn't this be double jeopardy?

The original sentence sounds like a travesty and that Matt Bevin made a completely correct decision. Disgusting that our laws are being misappropriated like this just to miscarry justice in an even graver way.

Separate prosecutions for the same crimes in state & federal courts are allowed.

Common enough that the Supreme Court literally just ruled on the validity of it last June.

It happens. The cops who beat the heck out of Rodney King are the most memorable example.
