Da Vinci Code twice and United 93

Da Vinci Code was disappointing, while United 93 was very poignant, and I think a very appropriate movie for the topic.

The Da Vinci Code

Two remarks about the movie:

1) Most of the supposed plot twists and suprising revelations could be guessed at least half an hour before they took place on the screen.

2) A few times the movie even became unintentionally funny. I haven't read Dan Brown's novel, but it appeared to me as if the director attempted to make a serious thriller/drama-version of "Dogma". As it turned out, this attempt failed.

X-Men 3.

I liked it a lot but it could have been a lot better.  I was very disappointed with a few of the things that happened in the movie.  And is it really the last film?  I kind of doubt it, judging by the double ending (the very last scene before the credits, and the scene after the credits).

I won't spoil anything for anyone, but if you go see the movie, you HAVE to stay after the credits are finished.

Lord of War

I went into this film expecting the average Nick Cage experience, fun but nothing out of the ordinary. I was wrong, it was the opposite. A very well made film that is thought provoking and a look at what may be one of the most despicable but necessary jobs in the world. Cage does suprisingly well in the role. The film is clever, surprisingly dark and, as I said before, thought provoking. I thought it was a very underrated film that more people should probably see.

Have any of you seen 2046 or "In the Mood for Love" and if so how did these four compare to each other?

I saw X-Men 3 today. I thought it was very good, but still disappointing and nowhere near the second movie. We were in a rush, so we left before the credits were over, and having just read what happens, I'm pissed.

Kramer versus Kramer
Fairly good. Loved the scene where the kid meets his dad's new lover.

Part of the Royal Tannenbaums with Fezzy and friends last night, right after we watched Wrong Turn.

I'm trying to get around to seeing all of his movies now -- you notice the cinematography in chungking express  the second time around  (like faye coming out of the store holding garfield during the big chase with the 1st cop). good stuff.

A few nights ago, I saw "In Good Company" with Dennis Quaid, Scarlet Johansen (hot!) and that guy from That 70s Show. It was pretty amusing but nothing spectacular.

Saw "Da Vinci Code" yesterday. It's certainly not the failure that it has been made out to be, but it shouldn't be up for any awards. It didn't really shift from the book at all, which was a bit frustrating, since the book is so literary in nature, which all the riddles, codes, etc. It's a no-win situation when you make a movie out of a book; either it is boring since it fails to shift from the book when neccessary, or everyone hates it because the director changed some supposedly important part of the book.

The Vanishing.

The original Dutch version, not the crappy Hollywood remake. Bloody excellent film.
