What did you think of the pro-life activist?

Serial Mom, starring Kathleen Turner. It disappointed me when I learned that it was not based on a true story as stated at the start/ending of the film. Still a good movie, though.

Reasonably cute asian.

I also recently watched Its Complicated, a late-middle-aged to elderly romantic romp.  It depressed me to see both the old trying to be happy and the strange depiction of affluence.

Is It Fall Yet?

One of the Daria movies. I have now watched every episode on the DVD so I watched this which I had actually not seen before. A little let down because Daria plots are ideal for 22 minutes, not over an hour, so it just introduced a lot of subplots that weren't really resolved. Plus I was never a big fan of Tom. Better than some of the weaker episodes though and the psychotic history teacher at the camp was a hoot. I kind of wish the show had touched on Stacy more, she was an underrated character in the later episodes after some development (in the first seasons she was just another shallow fashion club airhead.)

In Cinemas:

Saturday:

Fish Tank

Good, very well made (acting, directing, etc). Have to admit the story didn't really get to me. Maybe it's some kind of gender-narrowmindedness on my part.

Heh, that's in cinemas here now, and I'm thinking of going.

Wall Street (in preparation for Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps).

I don't think a snoozefest like that requires preparation.

Have you seen it? I know the reviews were mediocre but I wasn't sure what to expect.

Not a movie per se, but I recently watched the 8 part mini series Pillars of the Earth on Netflix and really enjoyed it.  I'm surprised that something of this caliber was produced for Starz.

I just watched the first Indiana Jones movie on a bus!  Yes the bus I was on was such a super-VIP it had little private video screens with a large selection of movies (only about 10% were in English).  Most of the English movies were Thai audio with English subtitles, but a few were the converse.  Most of the subtitles were the excellent original ones, but in a couple of cases they were google-type translations and made no sense at all.

Indiana Jones was quite enjoyable, and the female lead was very lovely and slim.  Total cost for the 6.5 hour bus ride 400 baht or about $13.50 at today's collapsed dollar rate.

Il Postino

It wasn't bad at all. Liked observing the DC election posters scattered about.

The Book of Eli  The plot itself was rather thin and I thought the whole movie dragged.  There really wasn't any suspense and it just plodded along down the highway.  The cinematography was subtle as a sledgehammer, however, I enjoyed that bit of pretentiousness as I felt it did set a mood. 2.3/4 stars

The Social Network

Yep, as good as it was said. Sorkin and Fincher actually made the story fantastic. And while Zuckerberg came across as an asshole, I was rooting for him over the twins because they appeared to be bigger assholes. But the bit with his best friend...that was brutal.

As soon as I heard how he was negatively portrayed, I knew I couldn't enjoy it. It hits too close to home for me. Maybe I'll see it when it comes out on video.
