Iron Man 2

Bleh. Not a patch on the first film - which it tries to cover up with more explosions and wise cracks. A half hour too long to boot.

Yeah, the early consensus on RT seems to be that it's pretty good but not nearly as well-made or memorable as the original. Was there a lot of build up for Thor/Captain America/The Avengers/etc. in it?

Yojimbo by Kurosawa. Interesting to compare to Leone's For a Fistful of Dollars. The Japanese version was more society-oriented, had a more complex story and was more raw as opposed to cool when it came to depicting of violence.

Quel maledetto treno blindato (the original Inglorious Basterds)-MUCH better than it has any right to be.  It's goofy, of course, but the acting and plot aren't as horrible as one would expect.  Lots of funny stuff in there....who knew Italians could be funny?

That seemed to be the only reason for the Sam Jackson and Scarlett Johansson characters - who really could easily have been cut from the film altogether without representing any great loss.

Dogtooth (2009): Fascinating and quite good, if somewhat shallow work which for all its weirdness leaves you once you leave the cinema. Perhaps it was the errors of the newbie director plus the very low budget (no non-natural light for example). But I will watch out of his films in the future. 4 stars out of 5.

Two I've seen while at home here:

Ninja Assassin: This movie basically delivers on what you'd expect from a movie calle "Ninja Assassin". So if you're expecting tons of violence, gore and a high body count, it'll deliver. If you're expecting a deep plot, it won't. For some reason too many critics seemed to want the former. The gore was so over the top it was kind of entertaining in that way, I'd recommend it to anyone who likes grindhouse type stuff.

Legion: My little brother "rented" this movie for free because he works at a video store and gets to watch new movies before the official release on Tuesday. This is as dumb as the previews and all that implied. Plot holes galore in a plot that didn't really make sense to begin with. There was some cool and clever action scenes, but you could see everything coming a mile away, why don't these type of movies let the black guy live for once instead of the cliche? Some good actors but most of them didn't really even try except for the guy playing Michael and Dennis Quaid who did sort of a "Ham and Cheese" type performance to quote TV Tropes. It wasn't bad as a way to kill about 90 minutes for free, but paying even a rental fee for this is too much unless you plan on watching it with a few buddies and lots of beer and/or weed because it could be fun in that type of setting.

The Fourth Kind.

This wasn't a very good movie despite a promising premise, and was actually hurt badly by its pretending to be based on actual events. The "actual footage" it showed wasn't real either and was just filmed in a way to look real, which isn't inherently bad, but it became kind of pointless when they would show scenes of the "actual" footage next to the "dramatization" scenes. Why not just stick with the "actual" footage only? Plus as many critics pointed out, it's barely an alien movie and could've just as easily been about demonic possession had it not have been for a bit tacked on at the end. Could've been far better than it was. BTW the actress portraying the "real" Abigal Tyler was way better than Milla Jovovich so this was clearly a case where looks triumphed.

In the last few days since exams ended I've seen a lot of movies, I'll try to name most of them

The Messenger: sort of inaccurate and unbelievable, but still a good movie, especially because of Woody Harrelson. He can be really great when in the right role. B+

Brothers: Tobey Maguire did a great job. Gyllenhaal and Portman were completely mediocre as always. Also highly implausible; the guy is stationed at a Marine base in the town he grew up in? In the Rocky Mountains? And if the helicopter that crashed allowed Maguire and another Marine to survive, and was therefore not trashed beyond repair, then how did the Marines know that they were dead and not report them missing instead? The ending was lame as well. C-

The Blind Side: I thought this was going to be a white-person feel good film, and it was to some extent, but it was far superior to Radio or anything of that ilk. Script was great, acting was good, and it was long but well paced. Sandra Bullock was decent, but not deserving of an Oscar. B+

Four Christmases: Several scenes were really funny,  but most were not. C

Hot Tub Time Machine: Better than I thought it would be, annoying plot twist that you saw coming from twenty miles away and a weak ending, but otherwise fairly decent. C+

Chloe: Erotic thriller with Julianne Moore and Liam Neeson. I have no idea what about this movie made Neeson or Moore want to do it; it couldn't have helped their career at all. Amanda Seyfried plays a hooker(the title character) and you get to see her naked a few times. Julianne Moore's nipples are gross, btw. The direction was solid though, and the acting wasn't bad(Neeson can't be bad, even if he wanted to). D

An Education: Not a bad coming of age chick flick. Peter Sarsgaard is creepy as usual, but the movie is actually fairly believable and the acting is great all around. Writing is good too, Nick Hornby is awesome. B

Neither did I.

Last film: Jules et Jim (1962): All I have to say is... huh? I don't get it.

An Inconvenient Truth. I didn't finish it, though, and I previously watched some parts of it (3 years ago).

Indeed. I had heard a lot about it and decided to download it. Certainly one of the most epic endings, ever.

Snuff-it sucked exactly as much as one would assume it would suck.  The "snuff" ending was, while a little gross, clearly fake.

2010(:The Year We Make Contact)-better than I expected, not as good as 2001 though.

Finally saw Avatar.

Sort of a victim of hype backlash. It was entertaining for what it was, even if not original. Could've done without much of the middle, quite boring. Get to the awesome action sequence near the end. Technically and visually very impressive (Note: I didn't see it in 3D.) And that's what was worked on the whole time, not the plot (kind of the anti-Inglourious Basterds in that sense.) Certainly not worthy of Best Picture but better than Titanic. I gave it a 7/10 on IMDB.
