Tigerland. I'd seen part of it when it came out about 8 or 9 years ago, but didn't watch the whole thing until last night. It was good, but it lacked a certain punch....

Late Autumn

A light-hearted and charming story - it was most interesting though from a sociological (given my dearth of knowledge regarding Japanese society of the era) and cinemagraphic perspective.

That seems a bit arty for you. Just sayin'. (Ah bless the IFI and its old-directors seasons).

(And for the record the last film I was Precious, too 'ghetto porn-y' for me really. I don't what everyone is going on about.)

Grin Well spotted, sir! - it wasn't my pick.
The choice may have been in part a response to my choosing The Road last time.

Going from Cannibalism to Ozu is a bit... different, yes (as I know from experience).

Crazy Heart

Basically The Wrestler, only with a country singer. Pretty good.

Fantastic Mr. Fox

Quite enjoyable and pretty epic at times.

How so? Compared to a film on a similiar theme Diner (1982), it wasn't particularly nostalgic or made it particularly pleasant (though it was homely). Though it did portray that world very well.

Whip It

This was a very strong movie. Far better than the "Girl wants to be rebellious so she joins a roller derby team" simple plot it could've simply been. Drew Barrymore might have a strong directorial career.

Too bad it bombed. (I've only seen about half an hour of it though.)

I doubt it had a high budget so it'll probably profit.

Edge of Darkness

Is this the first movie where Gibson doesn't try to hide how short he is?  He was noticeably shorter than just about every other member of the cast.

I saw it in November and I liked it too. Certainly beat my expectations.

Sarcasm doesn't come off very well online. Smiley

Actually I realized the sarcasm soon after I posted that. As far as such things go, I have found worlds more depressing (would we rather live in the land of The Last Picture Show or that of, say, Goodfellas?)

Jesus Camp

This surprisingly evenhanded documentary examines what American Evangelicals actually believe and how children are indoctrinated with Evangelical religious and political views.  I found it very scary in a number of ways, although the part with Haggard was hilarious in hindsight.  Highly recommended (although I suspect non-Evangelical Americans will find it the most interesting).

The Wolfman - pretty good overall; it could have used more wolf relayed violence, though.

Letter from an Unknown Woman (1948)

Excellent, short and sweet. Why has the "romantic" genre been so bastardized?
