It didn't have any annoying modern rock songs playing in it, did it?

hahaha . . . no, none that I recall.  Most of the music was limited to the scene shots, and that was primarily soft instrumental.  I don't believe there were any songs with lyrics in the background at any time.

Nanny Diaries

Mildly amusing. Scarlett Johannsen is a good actress/hot. That's basically all a guy can take away from the movie.

The Big Sleep

Finally got around to seeing this; there was a rerun in the major art cinema in the city. Well, the plot was truly a labyrinth but then again these things are never about plot, they're about style (and a whole PhD thesis could be written about it and similiar Film Noir's confused moral code\hypocrisy.) and Humphrey Bogart has that in spades; the dialogue of course, is typically fantastic and witty and made you wish that you could think of that. Obviously it's extremely dated, no art form dates faster than the cinema, and in the end the whole thing just becomes too confusing to be genuinely entertaining. Sadly not my favourite Film Noir.

The Last King of Scotland - thought the movie was good but it could have been a lot cleaner

Irreversible.

Wasn't a bad movie, but I'm never watching it ever again. For sure.

City Slickers

Not that bad, a few laughs. Perfectly watchable.

Shoot 'Em Up

Look at the title to see what it's all about. It was good fun. Clive Owen is pretty good at playing bad ass characters.

"Blow Out" (1981) starring John Travolta, Nancy Allen, Dennis Franz and John Lithgow. My favorite type of classic early 80's suspense thriller. Includes lots of swearing, smoking, big hair, and a good amount of naked chicks.

I saw Black Book and Sicko earlier this evening.

Sicko was Michael Moore's best film so far, but maybe that's because I agree with him more on this issue than on Bush/9-11 or gun control. He's certainly the master of taking facts and painting them into pictures to support his viewpoint.

Black Book was just wild and over-the-top, but what can you expect from Verhoeven? I felt pity for the SS Hauptsturmfuhrer, whose character was superbly played. The lead actress was good enough for the role. Watch out for a giant vat of feces, a woman's crotch, and multiple scenes of massacres if you see it.

marathon man

Fairly good, conspiracy thriller. A more effective torture scene than many more modern films. Both Hoffman and Olivier do well.

The Valet

French comedy isn't my thing, but the chick was hot.

Good movie, but I would think you'd hate it and consider it left wing propaganda.

For me, I saw Knocked Up finally when it played on campus last night. Hilarious!

Lola Rennt

I liked it. Some good funny moments (particularly after the bank robbery). Fit together nicely enough, maybe could have developed some parts further and cut down a little on the actual running - but all in all, not bad.

Black Hawk Down

Kind of hard to follow. I had a tough time remembering what character did what or why they were in that area or who was coming in, etc. It was mostly just shooting as far as I was concerned. But very cool action anyway.

Good.

Good.

Here's an old one-- School for Scoundrels (1960 version). It was absurd and not laugh-out-loud funny, but amusing. British humor rarely disappoints.

My Best Friend

Again, not a big French movie buff, but Auiteil (?) was great.

You Kill Me

Ben Kingsley was hilarious.

Back to the Future

I haven't seen the film in a very longtime, but I still found it quite enjoyable. Especially when Doc asks Marty about who's President in 1985.

Legally Blonde.

Funny, and Reese Witherspoon was very hot throughout the whole thing.

Bully.

Most of the sex scenes were unnecessary. Yes, I know how much it'll surprise you all for me saying that, but when you have cases where one character calls another one, there's no point in having the character getting called to be having sex. Then it just serves as an excuse to show sex. A bunch of other such scenes were the same.

But good otherwise. Those kids were f**king STUPID though.

And in 1985 some might have reacted exactly the same way had they been told who's Governor of California in our time period... Wink

Hairspray

It was surprisingly quite enjoyable. However it was kind of scary seeing John Travolta in drag for nearly 2 hours.
