An absolutely horrible movie. My Dad's a big Trek fan and he dragged me to see this movie in the theaters. It claims the title of being the only movie I have ever seen that actually put me to sleep, though The Good Shepard was close.

While I've fallen asleep before films a few times (notably so with Godfather II and Apocalypse Now), the only movie I fell asleep in front of in a cinema was Kingdom of Heaven.

Well Kingdom of Heaven was an alright movie I just think it suffered from bad casting. In my opinion the movie would have been much better if Liam Neeson had played an older version Orlando Bloom's character.

On Orlando Bloom, I agree completely with the BBC film reviewer Mark Kermode (who calls him Orloondo Bland) when described his acting (in a scene with Kiera Knightley in Pirates 3) as "positively teaky" and "You feel like you need to get out the varnish and varnish it."

Actually, Kermode's scornful reviews of all the Pirates films are hilarious - I think they're downloadable from the BBC Radio 5 website. Well worth listening to.

Nice to meet another fellow Kermode fan then.. not that I agree with him lots but he is genuinely one of the best critics out there.

Strongly agree.

Btw, how could sleep during Apoclaypse now? The GF Part II I understand, but Apoclaypse now? Tsk... Tsk... Kingdom of Heaven was genuinely awful though, but Miami Vice is by far the worst film I've ever seen in a cinema, I'd rather drink a can of paint while being raped by a ten foot green pole disguised as Colin Farrell then seen that again. Oh, and Colin Farrell must die. Painfully.

Yeah, I've watched Apocalypse Now since and I just don't rate it at all. I found it rather boring. That being said I'm a big Martin Sheen fan (well more West Wing nut...but still) - I was gutted that he went and did a semester at NUIG, straight after I finished there.

I've not seen Miami Vice and I don't reall yhave a lot of time for Colin Farrell (I remember him from Ballykissangel) though Phone Booth was reasonable.

Anyhow... saw Brazil last night.
Very heavily influenced by 1984. Some quality comedy moments (as to be expected from an ex-Python director) [I particularly liked "This is your receipt for your husband... and this is my receipt for your receipt." Grin] and a remarkably high quality cast. Well worth watching.

Too Much Future. A very good documentary movie about the GDR's punk scene. (Link is to a trailer on YouTube)

Hot Fuzz. The final 30 minutes are perhaps the most 30 brilliant minutes of cinema I have ever had the fortune of observing.

The 40 year old Virgin

That is such a funny film. Steve Carrell is so funny in it, especially when they are waxing his chest. Ooohh Kelly Clarkson.

Superbad. I was expecting more, honestly. The cops received way too much screentime - their shtick didn't change at all, but they remained on screen with Fogel. The ending was pretty good - including the well done awkward moments. Nonetheless, the majority of the movie didn't really flow and wasn't all that funny. There were humorous lines here and there, sure, but it didn't have the continuous humor of a Knocked Up, which was produced and acted by much of the same crowd.

The Graduate
Good film, but I thought it was meandering somewhat aimlessly towards the end.

My friends and I rented that movie as a joke after reading the wtf plot description on IMDb. Truly a brilliant piece of cinema right there.

Superbad. lol.

I just got back from seeing "Rush Hour 3", a very funny sequel. Funny enough, I went to see Rush Hour 2 in Summer 2001 and then ate McDonald's after...tonight I did the exact same thing. I love tradition!

Halloween

It was entertaining, or as entertaining as a slasher flick can be.

You want an entertaining slasher fic (with very little slashing) I'd recommend Cry_Wolf.

Watched Back To The Future Part II today. Somewhat confusing and amusing how they chuck in loads of stuff from the previous film.

Today I watched Hallam Foe.

If you like slightly Creepy Indie films then yes this is appropriate.. though I can't ever remember seeing a movie I felt more embarassed for the Characters in my life.

"Firebirds" starring Nicolas Cage, Tommy Lee Jones, and Sean Young. It began with a quote from President George H.W. Bush, and was about fighter pilots taking out drug cartels in South America. Impressive flick from 1990.

My Neighbours The Yamadas

Excellent. Shows that we haven't even scraped the potential that animation (the old-school kind, not 3D) has to offer. There's so much you can do with this genre that is simply impossible in live action.

Die Hard 4.0

I saw a dodgy dvd copy of it this morning. As John McClaine always says in the Die Hard series "Yippy K-yay motherf**ker"

Rosemary's Baby
Probably one of the best horror/thrillers I've ever seen. A series of very edgy and thrilling moments make this a thoroughly engaging and compelling piece of work.

"3:10 to Yuma"

It was pretty good, especially for a modern Western (which are few and far between).  The intro was a little light, and the ending was a bit abrupt, but over all, the action and story development was very good.  Hopefully this will trigger a few more Westerns.

It didn't have any annoying modern rock songs playing in it, did it?
