The Elephant Man

I can't believe I hadn't seen this until now; a true classic and undeniably heartbreaking.

SUNSHINE

In one smiley Huh What was with that film? A half melted man saying GOD told him that he wanted the World to die in an never-ending winter?

The first half of the movie sort of plagiarized "2001" (which made the first half definitely superior), while the second half was an all too obvious rip-off of "Event Horizon"... minus that evil dimension.

I just sat in the cinema and couldn't stop asking myself "what the hell were they thinking, when they decided to turn this in just another Teenie slasher movie"?? Wink

Cabin Fever.  Undeniably, BY FAR the absolute worst movie I have EVER seen in my life.

I second that.  I want those hours of my life back.

Groundhog Day and Money Talks

When I heard many except my father and I had seen "Groundhog Day", and that they had even put it in the National Film Registry....I knew I had to see it. It was a very good movie, and my dad and I enjoyed it.

We had seen "Money Talks" about 6 or 7 years ago, and I remember I watched it and liked it...but I forgot the movie and wanted to see it again. Funny and action packed.

The 6th Day. Why did everyone hate on this movie? It wasn't horrible.

Love Actually. I watched that one with my wife. Mostly British actors & humor, didn't get it as much as I'd like to.

Idiocracy.

At times becomes the thing it wants to satirize. But otherwise a fairly good way to waste 90 minutes or so out of your life, and has some (but not alot) very funny moments, but overall not really laugh out loud type humour.

Spider-Man 3. I know it got mixed reviews, but I enjoyed it. The fighting scenes were great as usual, but its character development and moments of humor made it stand out from the dozens of similiar action flicks of recent years.

Character development?  Moments of humor?

Were we watching the same movie?

You didn't get it because you didn't watch it from the beginning.  You missed the vital character introductions. Smiley

The Shawshank Redemption

I can't believe I've never seen this movie before.  It was excellent; one of the best I've seen in a while.

Solid flick, if predictable.

I'm with Joe. Watched it two days ago and was very disappointed. There was just so many completely laughable scenes (not in a moments of humour way) for one to take the message seriously. Worse scene to me was the returning of Harry's dad from the dead in order to explain the plot and character development for those who didn't get it. Talk about over-doing it...

Fast Food Nation.

Hey, it made me want to join an anti-globalization riot and Smash a couple of McDonalds, so it worked. Even though it's a greatly flawed piece of work taken from an distance - I admire Richard Linklater, I think he's an intelligent guy with an actual desire to say something in his films, unlike most other directors, the problem is that he really wants to be a rebel, but isn't sure how. And just ends up looking at times like a parody of 60s\70s countercultural types.

I should have made it clearer that I was comparing it to other movies of the same genre when I said it had character development and moments of humor. It was a lot better on that front than, say, Superman Returns or Fantastic Four.

Movies I've seen recently:

Superstar: Saw this on comedy central, very funny movie I enjoyed it.
Spider Man 3: No where near as well done as the first probably the worst of the series. I felt as if they made this one and the last one so that if worst came to worst they could end the series.
Airplane!: Fantastic!
Blood Diamond: Hard film to watch. It was nicely done but when I watch a movie I don't want a political informercial which is what I felt like it was half the time.
Shrek The Third: Saw this yesterday.... Like the Spiderman Series this third part is the worst of the lot. The first was very funny, the second was average but had a very funny final 20 minutes, this one had no big laughs just minor ones...
